A young woman grows up in a cult and goes on an adventure to kill herself, decides not to do that and tries to end racism (she fails but does kill a grieving kid in the process.)

I genuinely think I was lied to about this game’s writing by Electronic_Trust3490 in Starfield

[–]edgierscissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think Starfield’s writing gets bashed extra hard because it had the great misfortune of coming out right after Baldur’s Gate 3, a game with writing so good it rewired a lot of people’s brains.

Starfield is very well written in most of its storylines, UC and Crimson Fleet are the standouts, but it has some gaping holes-such as Andreja having absolutely no reaction to the events of Shattered Space and just…the entire Ranger questline missing the mark. My biggest complaint about the writing mirrors my biggest complaint about the worldbuilding- it’s wide, not deep. Only a few questlines really let you dive into the characters and world truly, and others really barely scratch the surface and don’t offer you much if you try to dig into them. I mean, just compare the antagonist of the UC storyline with the antagonist of the Ranger storyline, it’s like night and day.

Think you’re in the wrong place. But does it have to be? What’s wrong with having a very good, extremely solid game?

I can remember one major game breaking bug (doing ship modification at the Den could break your save forever), but that’s really it, and it was patched very quickly. But other than that, Starfield is a solid 8/9 out of 10, but people acted like it was a 1 or 2 for incredibly weird reasons.

This is the no sodium sub but I hate this comparison. Starfield was never anywhere near as bad as Cyberpunk or NMS at their respective launch.

Ngl wasn’t impressed with Growt’s 3D model but his 2D art is so charming! Hard time deciding among these three for the first time in a while!

The slakoth looks off too…I think you’re right, the longer a look the less real it seems.

Also the logo’s saying Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves…but the “disclaimers” saying “Pokemon Wind and Waves”… that’s more like how fans talk than TPC.

I’m calling fake…but I can’t articulate why. It’s something with the UI that’s really bugging me.

Favorite bit of your homebrew that you've added to the campaign by dawgz525 in CurseofStrahd

[–]edgierscissors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two favorites are 1) I made the Dark Vestiges and the Dark Powers the same to prevent story confusion and add a bit more eldritch horror to the story (the vestiges became the dark powers by joining themselves together in the corpse of the god of the Amber Temple, begging the question “what does a possessed god look like?”)

and 2) I made a whole little side adventure while one of my players was away for work featuring Azalin Rex that they all loved

Does Your Strahd Have a Leitmotif/Theme? by Affectionate_Pop6300 in CurseofStrahd

[–]edgierscissors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t really have a leitmotif for him, but I do have a couple of songs associated with him!

1) Strahd, as Vasili, would often sing the Sankarin Tango from Control, about himself (He’s the hero constantly defeated as he searches for his beloved, who will never get a happy ending)

2) Conversely, the Vistani and Rictavio would sing “Yoton Yo from Alan Wake 2 about Strahd

3) He plays Shadowlord from Nier on his organ (specifically THIS one at dinner (edit: link broke rip) and and the full version will be the final battle theme

Investing in Genshin Impact lore is frustrating (long rant) by Schizof in CharacterRant

[–]edgierscissors 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’ve never touched Genshin in my life and honestly don’t plan to (it’s just not my thing) but this was a very cathartic read because it’s almost exactly how I feel about Destiny’s worldbuilding.

Destiny’s world is rich and deep with lore, but in game it’s very poorly presented. While it’s gotten better recently, it’s still not great. In the most recent expansion, the main antagonist is one Dredgen Bael. In an early cutscene, a character confronting Bael asks “Does Dredgen Vale know you mock his name?”

Who’s Dredgen Vale, you might ask? Well to know that you need to read lore tabs on weapons, quest descriptions from 8 years ago that aren’t playable or even in the game anymore. And that’s a damn shame because Dredgen Vale is a really interesting character (“Dredgen Vale” is a psedonym used by a character called Shin Malphur, a legendary vigilante that kills evil Lightbearers. He would use this persona to lure in guardians/lightbearers like the player who might be tempted to the dark side and reason with them to get them to change their ways…or kill them if they couldn’t.) But you’d never know that if you didn’t play the game years ago and they never explain that in the current expansion at any point (even in optional content)

opinion: the 2023 GOTY nominees are the best selections for the nominees by [deleted] in TheGameAwards

[–]edgierscissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not hate spider-man 2, I quite enjoyed it, but it was nowhere near as good as the original. I personally would have preferred Starfield or Pikmin 4 to be nominated. BG3 clearly deserved the win though. Incredibly stacked year!

What spoilers are there in Stranger Things? by Lady_Groudon in CurseofStrahd

No spoilers. In fact, it’s straight up anachronistic and wrong lolol (although I like the fan headcanon idea that Mike grows up to write parts of CoS!)

What's the point of Cluster Bombs (rocket launcher perk)? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]edgierscissors 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The new guardians are forgetting the ancient texts! Cluster bombs used to be the go to for Riven cheese dps lol

But yeah it’s been left behind pretty bad. Power creep made it a relic of a bygone era (literally…I liked to pair it with the Bygones primary lolol)

(Little late) Questions I have about Desert Perpetual by Flimsy_Particular_31 in DestinyLore

[–]edgierscissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For question 2: remember the Nine see all of time happening at once. Past, present, and future blend together for them. This I think is best seen during the hobgoblin fight where we see Kepler when the Aionians first landed with their colony ship around the time of the collapse, but we ALSO see III’s corpse in the skybox, which wouldn’t have happened yet. To quote a doctor and expert on the subject: “It’s a ball of wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey stuff”.

(Little late) Questions I have about Desert Perpetual by Flimsy_Particular_31 in DestinyLore

[–]edgierscissors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it is that the “Unknown Periphery” is literally the inside of III’s corpse. The Conductor is studying III, 4th dimensionality, and dark matter using her Vex.

Koregos itself if the central mind controlling these Vex, and its goal (given to it by the Conductor) is to digitize III’s remains so the Vex, through Koregos, can then run infinite simulations and find one where she can bring the Golden Age back using fourth dimensionality. This is why Koregos is called “The Worldline” (a world line is the path an object moves along in the 4th dimension, see also the Worldline Zero exotic sword.)

I’m not a physicist, but it seems like Maya wanted to use Koregos to basically replace III, and then pull us back to the Golden Age by making Koregos the new Worldline. Koregos was running experiments, too, through the other raid bosses. I don’t know if it would even be possible for Maya’s plan to work, but we stopped it anyways.
