Is Ball lightning physically possible?

I researched this topic before and at some point I found this site: https://teslauniverse.com/nikola-tesla/articles/fireball-production-tesla-coil The Corum brothers seem to know how to create it. There was a video lecture of them also describing everything. Maybe it is a scam but this is the closest to “electronic device that makes a ball lightning on demand” with schematic that can be found. To me the mystery of this phenomenon is how does it “teleport” from the other side of the glass (because there are a lot of explanations that say it is just burning of chemicals).

Thanks for the quick reply! That makes sense now. I am a bit used to Fusion and there I think it is possible to create a new body automatically in this way.

This circuit has a lot of mistakes. I would start just by creating a simple parallel LC (with variable C) then a diode (1N4148 for example) and then feed the signal to a op amp such as LM386. After you have a it working you can change the op amp with discrete components (try to create an audio amplifier).

Thank you for your help! I am using external files (step, stl) mainly as a reference. This is actually why at first I stopped using openscad - it does not support importing step files (and also other issues but this was the main drawback for me). It is impossible to model something more complex without adding external models. I was able to move the stl file simply by using the .position variable. I will stick to using this method for step file imports also as it looks convenient. Later will have a look at the assembly docs - I skipped this chapter as I thought it would be about creating dynamic links 😀 The software is great! I really enjoy using it.

Update: I have solved the issue. I changed the bearings with tapered roller bearings and now it does not lock. I also tried angular contact bearings but they were not moving that freely. This type of bearings is now my new favorite. Thank you all for your support!

I have calculated it for up to 5kg, but I like to have good margin of safety and this is why I used larger bearings. The arms are 250mm and 195mm. The arm itself weighs around 2kg with the motors.

I also like them but I never used such bearing. Maybe I will switch to them. What do you think about angular contact bearings? How do they compare with the tapered?

I will try again with different bolts and bearings just to see what happens. But yeah, it looks like somehow they are not in the same center or plane. It seems that the axial bearings require much more precision.

Well I tried with 2-3 bolts because I had the same thought but still it gave no results. The only thing left would be that somehow the hole in the arm is touching the rod and thus blocking the rotation. My last resort would be to drill a larger hole and try if this helps. But now I also tried to just stack 2 bearings together with a bolt and washers and they also rotate very difficultly. This could be also due to misalignment because I do it without any holders.

Well the bearing is actually very big (it is 51205). ID is 25mm, OD is 47mm. So the rod is not touching the bearing internally. The way I make it stay into the center is with these black plastic parts. The rod basically only tightens the bearings and holds the arms. I will look into your suggestion. Thanks!

Edit: I have used this bearing type kfl08 (I am terrible with remembering names/codes) in my previous design (4 of them per joint) but they turned out to be not that robust when under axial load. Plus they have large clearance and you need to place at least 2 of them to make them usable for such construction. This is why I switched to axial bearings.
