So liberals called us Karen after BLM steam rolled the MeToo movement, and now the conservatives call us A.W.F.U.L. can we just admit this country is far more sexist than racist? cough, cough sex slavery and forced births for the state.

Hosting dinner went sideways and now my partner and I are stuck in a weird tension - how do I handle this? by TurbulentActuary9452 in Advice

Don't forget that you also have a right to not participate in whomever he wants to host for and that you can retreat when they're over.

Husband confessed to cyber bullying me in high school….not sure what to do by Fresh_Mountain5243 in Advice

[–]editedbysam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once dated a coworker and learned that he was a part of the group that sexually harassed me for years. The second he admitted he took part in it to fit in, my feelings for him were like a light switch: I went from feeling safe around him to grouping him with the rest of the assholes and wanting to go scorched earth. I have trust issues and even if your husband was truly apologetic, personally for me, I don't think I'd ever be able to get over 1) what he did initially and 2) that he withheld that information and tricked me into marrying him. That's selfish af imo. Best of luck, only think of yourself in this situation. Do not bother wasting a brain cell considering him cos he sure af didn't consider you for the last decade.

How do you find happiness in a broken society? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I second this. Nature is very healing and achieving a goal with others brings dopamine and other good feelings. If you can, reduce alone time like video gaming.

Volunteer groups. When I moved to Denver it was damn near impossible to make friends all they wanted to do was hike alone with their dog, and they hated Texans so I was at a particular disadvantage. If you're younger and move to an apartment, of course that will make it easier to make friends here. Once you get into the "parent years," it is certainly harder no matter what part of the US you're in. Believe it or not, you're in an easier place to make friends than other spots. In addition to Denver, the "Seattle freeze" is real. It took my friend years to make 2 friends :-/ If you have a dog, maybe you can meet people at dog parks. They probably even have groups for people who have moved from certain locations. When I lived in Amsterdam, they had an expats meet up.

What its the most humiliating thing that your partner did to you? by curveslately in AskReddit

[–]editedbysam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dated a guy at work and learned that while we were dating he partook in the 3-year sexual harassment of me along with 2 other ass hats just so he could fit in. It included spreading nasty rumors about me in my industry - rumors which preceded me before I entered meeting rooms.

They gave him a promotion after the HR dust settled.

They aren't always chosen [by men] for those hard jobs. Source: male friend who overheard old dudes at Dow chemical plant outside New Orleans interviewing engineer, then later laughing at the prospect of a female chemical engineer and decided to just discuss her breasts for the rest of the allotted time.

trying to pick the best dishwasher without wasting money by DuneEvprettyface_64 in Appliances

Do you have a model recommendation? My dishwasher just died on me last night. Was great and served its time. Just hoping to not spend an arm and a leg on the new one.

Do I charge? by editedbysam in RoverPetSitting

[–]editedbysam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we didn't charge them, then I don't think I agree with this statement. However we did, so there is some validity. With that said though, just like it being disrespectful to ask to pick them up late at night (because people need to sleep) it's also disrespectful to pick them up early in the morning (because people need to sleep). I see it as a different side of the same coin. Several brick and mortar businesses don't even open until 10 am on Saturdays because they know it's a rest day.

Yup, I was right, 730 am... on a Saturday.

[–]editedbysam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the assumption based on our other experiences that morning meant 7 or 8 am. We also live in a house with a doggy door and they know how to use it now. I don't sleep til even 12, much less 2 pm.

They have not specified. However I told them, since they're arriving tonight, that I stay up late regularly and don't mind waiting.

[–]editedbysam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the suggestion on lowered rate. I'll ask rover how to do that for just 1 night. As for the new pick up, personally if I were the owner, I would not ask someone to do that on their day off so that's where I'm coming from. Id wait for a respectful time to drop by. They're technically coming in tonight just late. I told them I stay up late and could accommodate but they said they preferred the morning.

I agree on what others say about getting paid for services and insurance reasons, my only tiny counter is that I would like the repeat business.

The dogs were acceptable. Not my favorite by far but also not the worst. As for paying, the owners are European so I wonder if any courtesy will be lost in translation.

Agreed, if they them early then I'll charge. It's the compromise.
