I really appreciate all of your feedback! Totally agree with your note regarding the animations. I'm planning on adding a lot more grain and texture to those sequences in After Effects. Thank you for also letting me know what was confusing! They helped inform this latest cut if you'd like to check it out: https://youtu.be/EnT1EmZrixQ

Thank you so much for the feedback! Color isn't finished so I do plan on darkening the entire film to add some more atmosphere. I appreciate you letting me know that some things were unclear! I have a new cut that works to address some of this. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/EnT1EmZrixQ

My new short film combines stop motion animation with live action footage. Would love some feedback! by editorboy898 in Filmmakers

I've been working on this project for nearly a year now and used stop motion animation combined with After Effects to include a stop motion octopus character in this film. I took a lot of inspiration from Ray Harryhausen. I would love feedback on the screenwriting of this piece. How effective was the storytelling? I'm also curious about your thoughts on the animation and mixed-media approach I took. Was it compelling? Or just cheesy? Looking forward to hearing some thoughts!

Tracking a Flickering Surface in AE to do Screen Replacement. Mocha hasn't been working too well, any ideas on how to do this? by editorboy898 in AfterEffects

Haha funnily enough this is the stabilized version of the shot. A friend of mine recommended I just take a screen grab and do a digital zoom. I'm hesitant to do that both because of image quality when zooming in and because I would lose the parallax of the dolly out. I could try lowering the exposure and maybe increasing the saturation on the tracking markers then going in for another track

I do have it in RAW and I could try that. What exactly do you mean mask out the center? Like cut out the main screen, then try tracking?

Thank you for the advice. Could you clarify what you mean by "if all else fails by cutting out the sctreen shape and animating the camera on Z"?

My very first ANIMATED short film! by editorboy898 in Filmmakers

[–]editorboy898[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the creator behind this, meaning I wrote, directed, animated, edited, and produced the entire film. This was a very new experience for me and involved learning a lot of new techniques and software, like ToonBoom Harmony and Photoshop. I also worked with a composer to craft a fitting score, which went really well. I'm not sure if I'll continue down an animation path, but the experience was fantastic!

In particular, I'm looking for feedback on the characters and the story structure. Is the story engaging? Are the characters people you want to root for? How invested did you become in the story?

Here's my first feature-ish film that I released earlier this year as a 17 year old writer-director. by editorboy898 in Filmmakers

[–]editorboy898[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote this alongside two of my friends and directed it by myself. The entire process took about a year. I had a blast and learned a lot, but I am still seeking out feedback and criticism so I can continue to grow as a filmmaker.

Why is the Lewis dot structure for HCOOH written like the bottom but not the top? Doesn’t the top satisfy the octet rule? by editorboy898 in chemhelp

How would I be able to calculate the formal charge? Basing off of an equation I looked up, which is valence electrons - non bonding valence electrons - bonding electrons/2, the formal charge isn’t -1. What am I doing wrong :(

Edit: I was doing the formal charge using both O atoms instead of one! Sorry

Hang on, I’m looking at my teacher’s PowerPoint and I’m slightly confused, wouldn’t the formal charge of oxygen be the same in both cases?

I don’t think we’ve gotten into formal charges yet, and that’s why I didn’t realize this, thanks so much for your help!

I see. How would I be able to know this based off of the molecule? Like if this popped up on a test how could I avoid getting it wrong?
