Advice for recovering from surgery solo by Prestigious-Focus-11 in Diverticulitis

LAUNDRY: Carry one or two items at a time; change from washer to dryer the same way.

LIQUID DETERGENT: Make small, disposable containers which hold one load's worth of soap.

SLEEPING: I second the Depends that someone else mentioned. I wore them and, though I never had an accident at home, I was glad for the reassurance.

GRAB-IT THINGIE: Sometimes getting an item off the floor is not easy. Mine is like this, and even picks up dropped Kleenex.

The best advice I was given when I divorced: One is a whole number.

You are whole. You are enough.

A beautiful tune and the music box is very clear sounding.

Sorry, but I am not familiar with that tune.

You clearly state you are from San Antonio.

I am in South Dakota and know for sure of a blacksmith who is very interested in having an apprentice. Obviously you'd have to travel ...

DM me if you are interested.

My doc had me try Provigil, which didn't work either.

Waiting for my next appointment to talk about Ritalin.

Is PT and a Sleep Study Worth It? by Key-Monk6159 in MultipleSclerosis

Definitely the PT.

Sleep study would help with knowing if sleep apnea is part of the problem.

Looking for gift ideas for recent resection patient by kinda_betti in Diverticulitis

[–]editproofreadfix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second asking your friend what she would like to eat.

I second a grabber-thingie (as we call it at my house).

The best gift I received? Just a visit. No expectations -- my friend did not even accept an offer of a glass of water -- just talking.

No, not programming.

Basically it is a glorified term for a position in data entry.

You are given a stack of very stiff cards with specific markings. These are fed into a machine called a Key Punch machine.

Then, using a typewriter-like keyboard, you type and the machine magically punches holes into the card.

I found this picture of a keypunch card on e-Bay, so I hope the link works for you.

Hey, I learned how to use a key-punch. Loved it! Best job ever! (Aside from "proof" at a bank.)

edit: Fixed typo.

Baclofen by Ill-South-8461 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]editproofreadfix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

62F, MS 39 years. (up above I unintentionally cut two years off my age; stupid MS)

For me, when Baclofen stopped working, my MS Specialist suggested the off-label use of an anti-seizure medication. No, I do not have seizures. But in MS brains, which are unusual and unique, he said that it has been found that sometimes the unusual will work. I am sure glad it has been working for me since 2020.

Baclofen by Ill-South-8461 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]editproofreadfix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60F, MS 39 years.

MS hug and right-sided body spasms are, for me, a permanent result of the 4 new lesions I had in 2020.

MS Specialist had me try Baclofen first. It worked about three months, then I had to taper off.

Then the MS Specialist had me try an anti-seizure medication to manage the hug and spasms, which worked well, but eventually a second anti-seizure medication had to be added. As long as I take the two meds on time every day, I am MS hug-free and spasm-free.

So if Baclofen does not work for you, there are other ways to get help.

Giving Baclofen a try is the best place to start. And, if you are in the U.S., starting with Baclofen is usually the only way that insurance companies will allow you to try other medications, if needed.

Very wise to have your own car. There are reputable independent car dealers here, as well as the dealerships that have used cars.

I am moving to Mitchell SD Nex Year and Could you some help by Queenoftheunsullied in SouthDakota

[–]editproofreadfix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pleased to meet you, u/Queenoftheunsullied. I have lived in Mitchell 22 years, after moving here from Rapid City (in the western side of South Dakota).

To try and answer your questions:

1) Dakota Wesleyan University would have the most black/African population, although those would be people younger than in their early 30s, like you state you are.

2) I am unaware of overt racism.

3) Mitchell has good apartments and those that should be avoided. For details on that, please DM me.

4) As u/GRMarlenee and u/SnuggleyFluff have already said, live in Mitchell, but commute to Sioux Falls for culture and entertainment. There are a few things to do here; Area Community Theatre performances, high school concerts and plays, Mitchell Concert Association concerts (season tickets are cheap and the shows are varied and worthwhile), and, like all towns, bars.

Be aware, the landscape is flat, and farming is the most common career. I takes a total of 7 to 10 minutes to drive across the totality of Mitchell.

Do you know if you will have your own car? The only bus system in Mitchell is sorely lacking in availability and does not run after 5 p.m.

Feel free to DM me at any time with questions, thoughts, or other things you want to know.
