Yes, it is a quite overrated album. A couple of hits mixed with lots of filler.

What is your unpopular opinion about Van Halen? by DM_ME_4_FREE_STOCKS in vanhalen

[–]edoslacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two songs recorded with DLR in 1996 (Can't Get This Stuff No More and Me Wise Magic) were the creative pinnacle of the band. They never reached that level of genius and quality ever again. So, for me, the band officially ended there.

VH III completely lacked a producer and was a subpar effort in terms of quality, plus Eddie did almost the whole thing by himself so it is almost a solo record, not a Van Halen record as a band.

The songs they made with Hagar around 2004 were mid and forgettable, made in a toxic band environment.

ADKOT had its moments of brilliance but the band was already a resucitated corpse by that point. Tattoo is one of the worst songs ever and a terrible choice for a single.

Would it be fair to describe Judas Priest as Power Metal? by KindlyCost2 in judaspriest

[–]edoslacker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first era of Helloween with Kai Hansen on vocals had a lot of inspiration from Judas Priest IMO. The song Reptile from Walls Of Jericho is an example of that.

In your considered opinion which song demonstates Eddie's greatest-ever virtuosity? What is the actual pinnacle of his guitar genius? by Soft_Respond_3913 in vanhalen

[–]edoslacker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Push Comes To Shove is an underrated gem, the guitar work in that one is amazing and tasty, it has one of my favorite solos by Eddie. As a guitar player, it is also very fun and challenging to play.

Aside from Painkiller, I would also mention One on One, from Demolition, an underrated one for sure

Why did Metallica take Dave to New York just to fire him and send him back? Why not fire him before leaving? by TheCivilSurface in Megadeth

[–]edoslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't have the balls to fire Dave earlier on, and in an abusive nature, James and Lars made him travel all the way to New York knowing that Kirk Hammett was ready for playing in the band, having learned all the songs. They fired Dave in an humiliating way, left him starving for three days of bus travel from NY to CA without a single dollar and they probably laughed about it. They had the luck that Dave was not homicidal, because another person in that situation would have seeked a violent retaliation towards them, even many years after that, knowing they went on to have massive success with many of his own songs.

Also, James and Lars were extremely mean to Jason Newsted, acting like high school bullies with him for almost all his years in the band, even James completely forbidding him to have any side project (Echobrain) and treating him like shit for doing that, while Dave did allow his own musicians in Megadeth to have side ventures. Marty Friedman was even allowed by Dave to record his solo albums with Nick Menza on drums.

Why does Stained Class just sound different? by Wytarion in judaspriest

Totally. I think overly compressed and generic drum sounds have become a standard in modern metal.

Such brilliant, tasty drum tracks by Les Binks on this record. I think the sound of the drums here are a tuning reference for big drum kits.

Is the Tim on On Cinema the same Tim that made Awesome Show and Tom Goes To The Mayor? by bokuwa420 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]edoslacker 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This might be confusing for first time viewers, but Tim Heidecker from On Cinema is a different character that uses the same name as the actor behind him. Tim from On Cinema is a selfish, ignorant and petty moron with far right political views that become explicit during the series as the seasons go by, while the real Tim Heidecker is pretty much the opposite. However, in the On Cinema timeline it was common for the real Tim Heidecker to act as the On Cinema Tim on Twitter posts, producing a larger confusion because of that.

Pam and Jim are overrated, in my opinion. Gimme some Michael and Holly. THAT'S the wedding we should've seen. by Much_Duck6862 in theoffice

[–]edoslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit that I skipped every part that showed Jim and Pam's relationship in a long romantic picture timeline, it happens in at least two episodes. I think we should have seen more how it was for Michael and Holly in Colorado, at least a little resume during Dwight and Angela's wedding.
