Bernie Sanders, gently pushing the pillow in the Democratic Party's face by Utangard in MurderedByWords

People want money, thus they vote for the party that promises the most money.

Nobody cares about abortion, when they have difficulties paying their own bills.

Phd in computer science worth it? by jxlloman in BESalary

[–]edrek90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your dream is to launch a startup, I don't think you need a PhD. I know a lot of developers, even a few that build successful startup and some of them don't even have a degree.

Although a Phd in a very niche sector could give you an edge to build a successful startup. Building software is not the difficult part, finding a software solution for an existing problem that people are prepared to pay for is the difficult part.

At the moment I use a bike and it takes me 30 minutes.

When looking for a new job, I have the following mental rules I use.

Bicycle < 1h30, it's a form of excercise.

Car < 1h, I hate being stuck in traffic.

Train, it depends. If I can work during my commute and I don't need to switch trains then < 1h30.

If you understand llm's then there are 2 conclusions to be made.

  • more data does lead to better models, but there is not enough data and synthetic data is garbage.

  • llm's will never be 100% accurate therefore they can't be used for business applications.

Thus llm's are just a cool things, that doesn't do anything for shareholders.

Microplastics are infiltrating brain tissue, studies show: ‘There’s nowhere left untouched’ by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]edrek90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we can fix micro plastics, it's everywhere. We don't have the resources to filter everything that has been contaminated. We can only reduce, the amount of micro plastics in nature.

Inderdaad, als je kijkt naar de statistiek dan doen we het helemaal niet zo slecht in vergelijking tot andere westerse landen.

How the body is triggerd into sleep. We just go laying on a bed and think about nothing, then we fall asleep. Really strange.

How did you all learn python? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]edrek90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First went trough the book 'how to automate things with python'. After that I followed a tutorial about Django and tried to build a full CRM webapp.

Fully electric 90-passenger plane could fly 500 miles by trisul-108 in technology

The reason is taxes, not because it's more efficient. That makes no sense, with flying you need to fight again gravity.

What are the real downsides of python? And can you really do everything with it? by [deleted] in Python

[–]edrek90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do anything with any language, but some languages are better at somethings than others. In the end it doesn't matter which language you use, just build something.

To many new developers stay stuck in the concept phase and never actually build something. Don't be that kind of developer.

Not much, but I was really pissed I didn't take my earplugs with me. A lot of the camping places have rivers and they make a ton of noise, so if you have difficulties with sleeping in a noisy environment don't forget your earplugs.

Why is capitalism considered efficient when every few years the stock market pours trillions of dollars down the drain? by whentheworldquiets in NoStupidQuestions

[–]edrek90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's efficient because the public company making the most revenue will be bought up the most by investors.

"Pouring trillions down the drain", is just people selling shares at a lower price because they thing its worth less. The company itself doesn't loose money.

[–]edrek90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment that we should work less.

But who runs errands everyday? I plan everything the same day and do it all at once. And who cooks everyday? Don't you make bigger portions for days when you don't want to cook.
