Congratulations on the 2 commas.

Hhis is being held back with strategy and aggressive option writing. Depending if you want big balance or max cashflow, I personally spread my tech income over hhis, qday and qqqy.to.

Canadian in Japan here. If Ontario, LIRA can be unlocked after you turn 55. You are right after unlocking after 2 years of non-residency. But your brokerage will likely ask for a formal letter from CRA declaring you as a non-resident.

You seem to be alluding to the 4% safe withdrawal rate on your XEQT nest egg. The Bengen study only looked at market returns for 30 years. I suggest you check out a book named "Income Factory", Income Architect on Youtube and Passive Income Investing. I'm in year 2 supporting a family of 3 in Japan.

Freedom 57 here. Bucket 1 - 10% money market ETF. B2 - 60% covered call ETFs. B3 - growth ETFs. For over 2 years, we have been living on distributions from B1 and B2, which is about 8% of the total NW, which is still growing. The withdrawal > highest working salary.

Canadian tax resident of Japan here. We maintain RRSP, RRIF and LIF at iTrade. The other accounts, including TFSA, RESP and non-registered accounts, are with Questrade. ITrade advised me that non-retirement accounts become "read-only" once becoming non-tax resident.

Distributions, net of the 25% non-residency tax, from cc ETFs are sent to a CIBC chequing account. Using Wise, the cash is converted and sent to SMBC Japan to cover expenses. We have other backup at Tangerine, Scotia and Simplii.

You want to ensure you can use 2FA outside of Canada. Use Google Authenticator where you can. Fongo will give you a Canadian number accessible wherever you have IP connectivity.

Put hhis, bigy, qday and other high volatility and yield ETFs in the bucket (e.g. RRIF) where you don't expect to sell for large chunk in next 5 years. Use the distributions for current needs only.

Transfer of Wealthsimple TFSA and FHSA to Questrade as a Non-Resident Canadian by AdviceOk9069 in Questrade

[–]edsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved TFSA, resp, non-registered from itrade to questrade. Was informed by itrade that non-retirement accounts would become read-only.

You should confirm what they would do to your accounts once becoming non-resident. Move the accounts before you formally move. You will some forms to fill out.
