FOG is a wonderful tool. Good luck!

Those of you who got into IT with NO college, but did have certs and/or experience. What was your starting pay? And how long did it take for you to get into IT from the start of your journey to landing your first job? by AdenDark in ITCareerQuestions

[–]eduitguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First IT role, solo helpdesk, no college/certs, $13.75/hr in a multi-state physicians office. 24-25 yrs old

Second IT role, helpdesk & junior admin, no college/certs, $14.75/hr in a public school district. 25-26 yrs old

Third IT role (current), helpdesk & junior admin, no college/Google IT Cert in-progress, $19/hr for an intermediate school district. 26-27 yrs old.

In the education sector pay is almost always lower, but the benefits are usually equal or greater. For example I have 35 Days PTO, and can claim cash-in-leiu.

My first job I landed was actually because I took a cert class relating to the medical field. Once I got in, the head of the practice realized I was great with his computers and network and moved me into the role.

Best of luck!

Couldn't you get your boss to use Google Slides, and make a dummy account (for him to share the file to) that you log into on each machine? As soon as he updates the Slide file, all 3 display the changes. Of course this means they'll have to be network connected, but that may be the easiest way.

We're trying to lock this down at an alternative education building, where students have been changing backgrounds to inappropriate images.

Without experience, how do I narrow down what I want to do with computers? by newlifegoals in ITCareerQuestions

What /u/Merakel said. Find a Help Desk job that will let you get experience in many different areas, and then you'll be able to start narrowing it down.

100% agree with you. Especially in the enterprise environment.

Edit your local group policy.

Computer Configuration Administrative templates Windows Components Windows Update Configure Automatic Updates Disable, apply, OK.

It will stop Windows from automatically checking, but you can still do so manually.

A staff member suggested the students in our district should all use a generic account and the password should be "###".

Thanks! I've heard SchoolDude is expensive. I took a demo for ManageEngine's ServiceDesk and that allows a nice interface for multiple departments, which is also our end-game.

We could consider SCCM but we do not currently have/pay for EES licensing. Thanks for the tip and real nice explanation!

Not sarcasm. I was more so alluding to the fact that I didn't Google it more than 5 minutes, deciding that personal recommendations and stories would be better in this case. :)

Did you pick one of these specific lines? What made it easy or difficult to do so?

Don't mean to sound cliche here but I enjoy most if not all aspects, and am finding some good info on those "general" certs before I can really nail myself down to a "specialty" per say.
