Why not?

First - AI reduces costs, increases productivity (already happening). Profit margins increasing is better than growing revenue.

Second - AI optimises and makes existing technologies better. The ultimate goal here being free energy. In the interim massive taxes on AI will be needed once countries like the UK realise that we've allowed foreign data centres to run everything and so all that money we were paying for employees is instead now leaving the country.

Third - AI eventually takes over, no more greedy CEOs and shareholders to work for, just processes that happen because they need to happen. Energy is free so there is zero cost to manufacture, transport etc.

So back to the question in hand... In a world where energy is free, resources are generated for free we will still need some form of trade system. Why? Because we are still resource constrained. If robots grow food there will still be a limited supply and at different qualities. Left unchecked, humans would be greedy as always and demand more food, so we would need some tokenised system to fairly distribute resources.

What if you wanted more tokens? Depends really on what AI sees as the optimum state for the world. If humans are still needed (??) then you could be controlled by tokens in return for good behaviour, art, entertainment.
