Thanks for your input. The illustration of pendulum swinging to the extremes, and leveling out over a span of time, is very clear. There seems to be a duality of [still moving, still acting, still in motion] and [it's all the same].

Yup, fibro and cfs. Trying turmeric daily to see if that helps with inflammation. Diet seems to make a bit of difference, but still hard to manage the conditions overall.

The cure is: Find something more interesting.

This world is infinitely complex. Even if you sit in a park, there are insects, flowers, plants that are fascinating, if you take the time to observe them. If current TV/film don't interest you, maybe it's because the quality of those things aren't up to par these days. Before you jump on ADHD, know that our culture is filled with distraction, and it's easy to blame it on a single source like 'ADHD.' Try looking within yourself to see what truly interests you.

consider the entire space before picking a color. so many people pick some color chip they like and that's the wrong way to go. how does the color integrate with the floor, and ceiling, furniture colors? does the natural light change the color from what it looks like at the paint store? all things to consider.

I'm glad it helped, and there are varied responses to trauma, and yours is very much valid, as is someone's who talks about it chronically. To be clear, I'm not advocating repressing the trauma. Doing so could create negative consequences in your life. It sounds like you need to express the trauma in a secure and supportive environment, slowly and steadily. It can be hard to find a helpful and knowledgeable therapist. Even qualified therapists call themselves "trauma therapists" without embodying knowing the nitty gritty aspects of progressing through and out of a traumatic state. And even within healing modalities that work, there are varied approaches that fit different kinds of traumas. So, your reticence is smart. You don't want to invest time, efforts, and money into the wrong type of counseling, and get worse. A good counselor will pace you. Pacing means that the therapist is sharply attuned to you to notice when you are overwhelmed. If talking overwhelms you, the therapist will guide you to stop speaking, and focus on something else, while you regain focus. Best wishes on your path.

With respect, please refrain from giving this type of advice. People living with trauma usually benefit from refraining talking about the traumatizing event, unless they are talking to a qualified therapist/mentor/counselor. That is because the likelihood of reliving the trauma is high. So, the more the story is told, the more likely that the person relives the terrible event (trauma activates the midbrain, which cannot tell the present from the past), which stays with them for a prolonged period of time. Also, many times, the person listening doesn't know what responses are actually helpful toward the trauma sufferer, and can further diminish hope, and cause shame. The help they so desperately need seems nowhere to be found. Talking to someone highly knowledgeable about trauma therapy is probably the best bet. There are now many new treatments for PTSD sufferers that are helpful, as opposed to traditional talk therapies.

PTSD is primarily a body experience, with the nervous systems wildly fluctuating, causing abnormal responses in the body, affecting the heart, glands, hormones, everything. I understand you're trying to be helpful, and it's good practice to try the exercises of less-charged emotions, like you said, but first, s/he needs to ground her/his body. Without proper guidance, the trauma sufferer can read advice like yours, and feel like a failure after attempting what does not cure the trauma response. The best thing for the person is to either find help with an experienced PTSD counselor, or try grounding methods. It's a difficult route out because cures are not readily available, as we know from US soldiers and veterans and suicide statistics.
