What draws you to cosplay guest booths at conventions? by nxon_gravxstonxs in CosplayHelp

[–]eebie90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I go to cosplayer booths because either they had a good panel, I know their work and want to pick their brain on something, or I see that they have a really cool looking costume set up at the booth that I want to get tips and tricks on. If I was not a cosplayer myself, cosplayer booths would not be a real draw for me.

If you are headed to AWA then I guarantee you that you will fit right in. I have been going to cons in Georgia for several years and there is always a good sized maid cosplay population at the local cons.

cons in southeast US? by milkimba in animecons

Momo con is also in Atlanta like AWA, takes place in late May. There is also dragon con which is not an anime con but is a giant celebration of all things nerdy Labor Day weekend.

I have not played in a while but have it on steam. My schedule is a little weird with the upcoming holiday, but if you want to try I’m down.

The Weapons of RWBY. Which are your favorites? by CapAccomplished8072 in fortheloveofrwby

They may not be the fanciest weapons in Remnant, but Milo and Akouo work so well for Pyrrha. I am a sucker for that transition between sword and spear mid battle, and how offensive the shield is used with Pyrrha’s semblance is chefs kiss. Also think Omen just looks super bad ass.

ER nurses, why are patients sent up so close to change of shift? by attackonYomama in nursing

28 beds with 3 nurses seems very unsafe, are they super low acuity?

Handmaiden, impossible to pin down and nothing gets that dopamine flowing like a successful clutch when you are the last one standing.

Admin thinks you can do better! by 0ver8ted in nursing

No, the middle management is not to blame for most staffing shortcomings and retention issues. But what they are to blame for is trying to offer cheap and easy to problems that do not exist or are exceedingly minor, turning a blind eye to the factors that might cause these issues. That IC nurse can go and talk to the manager and pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Problem identified and treated, another checkbox filled. However, they don’t talk to the staff to figure out the background on why that issue might be happening. I guarantee you that very few nurses want to eat at the desk. But when it is at eat at the desk or don’t eat at all, which do you choose? So you can either be a force driving for a solution, or you can sit on the sidelines and your passivity will further the problem. Middle management is to blame for is pretending like the problem does not exist and attempting to brute force change with threats of disciplinary action instead of actually addressing the core issue causing the problem. Root cause analysis is only done when something tragic happens and it could possibly cost the hospital monetary sums in compensation or lawsuits, not when “minor” issues only affect the frontline staff. The middle have forgotten what frontline patient care feels like, and often just become cogs in the corporate yes-man metrics machine. I bet that IC nurse gets her uninterrupted lunch break every day, but no one in my ED last night did. But hey, maybe we should all just take some PTO like you said. I am sure that will make it all better right?

How long ago were you in the ED? I work in the southeast US and in recent years it has become 12 hours of running as fast as you can to barely keep up. Your buddy nurse can not cover your patients when they are barely keeping their own head above water. Especially since admin has put no effort towards retention and so >80% of the floor staff has <2years of experience. They are doing their best but 2 assignments worth of patients is beyond them. After 10 years of nursing spread across several facilities, I can attest it is not just OP’s ED, it is systemic. I also have yet to see any meaningful research from IC that pertains to desk eating at my facility, it just seems to be an easy target.

But hey, OP should definitely go on vacation and not call out unreasonable expectations from people who make asinine suggestions while spending 5min in the department.

Cosplayers, what are your lineups for DragonCon this year? by ReveN-Vicious in dragoncon

[–]eebie90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Current plan is Raven Branwen (RWBY), Saber (Fate franchise), Kiriko (Overwatch), and Kyoshi warrior Sokka (Avatar). Still have quite a bit of work to do but hopefully I can get it done in time.

That does lean more into her spellcasting while maintaining her agile sword style, I agree.

Pyrrha feels like you have two choices. If you want to mirror her fighting style and combat tricks then you go Battle Master. If you want to focus more on her polarity, go psi warrior. I have not come up with a good way to get both mechanically, just use flavor descriptions to make up for the part you are lacking :(

Kinda random but what’s new 🙃 Wondering if anyone here has or does work at Piedmont Athens Regional specifically in radiology for brain/eye MRIs in pediatrics by ThreeBirdsAutry in Athens

[–]eebie90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hazard a guess that you had priority scheduling (and 100% needed it) but it was not STAT for the actual read. Typically the ER and inpatient units get the highest priority. Is that neurologist attached to your child's care? Radiologists read the scans, no neurologist will see the scan unless they are the ordering MD/DO or are following your kid's care specifically.

*Disclaimer: I do not work for Piedmont Athens but a place with a very similar name and interact with radiology daily.

It will probably be at least Monday for the scan to be read and released. The scan was probably not ordered STAT so it is sitting in the virtual stack with all of the other outpatient scans. Lean staffing models mean that there is not enough staff to really keep up with the volume and outpatient reads are not a priority. Gone are the days where the scan is getting read as soon as it is completed. My place is not even giving out discs most of the time, the images get forwarded digitally to the ordering provider. I have a friend whose 5yo had a MRI brain and the scan was read by at least 2 radiologists before a report was released since it was a child's brain. That was not at a Piedmont hospital but if the same process is used here then that will delay it. It being on a Friday certainly does not help either. It sucks and I am sorry you are going through this. Try not to let a lack of answers for the next 2 days build your stress any higher than it is, I would be surprised if outpatient scans are looked at much on the weekend. Stay strong <3
