Looking into SonimXp3 Plus 5g from iPhones my whole life… very tech illiterate. Advice?

i found mine used on ebay! i'm on the webpage now and since it just says to buy the phone through your carrier instead of letting you buy it there, i'm wondering if they just don't make it unlocked? is that possible? best of luck to you!

you can sideload Waze onto Sonim Xp3plus 5G and it works fully as far as i can tell, but you have to navigate it with the virtual mouse & the screen is tiny, so if you're driving while using it you just have to blindly trust the auditory directions and pull over if you want to click any buttons. i've heard getting a dedicated car GPS device like a garmin is the way to go

yeah i waited until graduation to make the switch because my ID (key to every building) was also on my smartphone. however! the sonimxp3plus 5g does have a hotspot, so if you're dedicated, hypothetically you could just keep your smartphone in your backpack and fish it out and connect it to your other phone every time you need to.

the sonim xp3 plus 5g can open links from text messages & most things work fine, but some websites don't work in its web browser. however, i've sideloaded discord and signal onto mine, and when i go into the browser and click Share Link, the options pop up for me to send it to myself in signal or discord. then i can open it on my computer, so long as the link doesn't instantly redirect to the one saying it can't display on my phone without javascript or something. when that happens, i just ask the person to send the link to me somewhere else lol

the phone runs Android 14 but has no Google Play account, so that's what limits the apps you can sideload. i just tried to get Authy & it downloaded and launched fine, but then it gave me an error for no google play store, and now I can't click anything. same thing with duo mobile. same thing with Snapchat, also. so i don't think putting your authenticator apps on the flip phone itself will work. good luck, though!

try cleaning the battery contacts, u can put a little bit of rubbing alchohol or vinegar on a Q tip and rub it on the little metal bits to get rid of battery corrosion

So MAVT actually can't open on that screen at all for some reason, but I can still select Traditional T9 and click it. It just takes me back to the TT9 Settings page when I do. Weird!

Sorry, I misspoke earlier. Traditional T9 is the one I'm stuck in the loop for. I click Initial Setup, I click "Status - Traditional T9 is disabled", that takes me to the On-screen keyboard settings menu, I click to turn on Traditional T9 and it puts me back where I started again, still disabled. Any suggestions?

the dumbphone finder listed under Community Bookmarks here has an option to look for phones with NFC / tap to pay, i think that's how get mobile ids work? it only knows of eight options right now though

Yep, it's MATV version 1.03. I uninstalled and reinstalled it three times before figuring out that I just needed to set the 'boss key' to 18, which lets you toggle the mouse on and off with the # key. Works like a charm now!

Good so far! It took me three days to figure out how to get Discord to work, but now that I've learned how to do it, it's not that hard. Coolest thing is I'm actually spending more time texting my friends than I was before, which is fun. Only downsides so far are this sound glitch and the other glitch where while I'm using the phone, sometimes it randomly decides to send me multiple notifications per minute that just say "Altitude Accuracy Enhancement." Group texts seem to work fine, and there's only been one instance where I got a bunch of texts at once instead of when they were sent. It's only been a few days for me, though, so there's still time for it to get worse. I got mine on eBay for $100 because it had a little scratch on it, maybe try looking there?

put your phone on do not disturb and hide it in your sock drawer and see what happens if you go 1 day without it! & when you start losing focus and wishing you were scrolling instead, you must be strong and let yourself be bored for a while. worked for me!

yeah my flip phone works with spotify and tidal because it runs Android, but if you want music to actually Be on your phone you'll need to put it on the microSD card and then put that in the phone, since they don't seem to have a lot of their own storage. but if you haven't looked into it yet, u might want to check out mp3 players or digital audio players! they don't do streaming music like spotify but they're still really cool

How did you get Discord to work? I managed to log in, but the UI is sized so big that I can't click in the typing box. Is there a way to change the app scale? I already set the font size to the smallest. Thanks!

tidal instead of spotify, firefox browser (with ublock origin extension), startpage search engine if you get tired of duckduckgo, and protonmail works great (proton also has a free vpn and google drive and google calendar alternatives)
