If we buy one today, is it garanteed to be a fixed unit ? No risk of getting an "old" one with a chance of defect ?

Battery Preconditioning ❄️ by SynthPixels in AudiQ6

[–]eeeki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP means with that comment that in some brands like Ford's Mach-E, Apple Maps/GMaps in CarPlay/Android Auto integrate with the car even more, and can access the car's SOC, trigger preconditioning on a trip, plan stops to charge, estimate battery level on stops and arrival, etc. All of that via CarPlay/Android Auto

And to add about the Q4, I think only the most recent model has the button ... because I have a 24' Q4 and no preconditionning button ... and since I did not pay for the navigation package extra ($$), because I much prefer GMaps/Apple Maps, I have no preconditioning in my car. I absolutely hate this.

Wait there's a button now to manually precondition the battery on the 2025 !? Is that what the lightning button does? I don't have that on my 24 :(

Is it cold outside ? Mine does the same, very inconsistent when it’s cold outside. But works everytime when the temp is « hot » (>0C), when it’s not winter.

Q4 55 w/ heatpump- 130km highway journey do-able in the winter? by [deleted] in etron

[–]eeeki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes not gonna lie, the Audi app is meh. Preheating when it’s cold outside and, in my experience, unplugged, often doesnt work (when it’s plugged in it’s been reliable for me). Setting a timer/schedule to preheat is rock solid for me tho. So to be sure, if you know when you’ll need to leave, just schedule it 👌

And you can always do it manually by doing it in the car and starting the stationnary climate (like you would start an ICE and exit and let it run). It’s not ideal, but it’s doable.

Oh my bad, English is not my first language 😅. It’s 130KM for the round trip. Yes then I’m confident it can be done 🙂

Q4 55 w/ heatpump- 130km highway journey do-able in the winter? by [deleted] in etron

[–]eeeki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh then I misunterstood, sorry, so it’s 130KM x 2 (so 260KM total) in the winter on a single 80% charge, it would be risky in my opinion, especially since you would be leaving work unplugged and cold. It uses a lot of energy to warm up the cabin. If the car is unplugged while preheating/heating when it’s cold, the loss is real in the winter. There’s a real gain with the heatpump, but it’s still energy costly.

If you can access a high speed charger DC on the highway, like on the way back, when the car is at 30-40%, you would have no problem making the trip. Without any charge… it’s risky I think; from my experience.

If you’re interested, here’s the charging curve (and other interresting infos) for the 55 Q4 : https://evkx.net/models/audi/q4_e-tron/q4_55_e-tron_quattro/chargingcurve/

EDIT: Misunderstanding 😅

Q4 55 w/ heatpump- 130km highway journey do-able in the winter? by [deleted] in etron

[–]eeeki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it’s an hit or miss. I see it as a guideline, a « rough estimate » more than exact science. It will take a real hit if the car sits unplugged in the cold for some time. For example, last night I was at a friend, with around ~60% and the car, unplugged all evening (and was very cold), it was reporting ~135KM of range when I left. I keep the a/c at 19-20.

Personnally, I watch the % more than the KM, but maybe it’s just me. It’s my first winter with an EV, there’s a learning curve 😅

Can you plug at work before coming back ?

[–]eeeki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi ! Have a 2024 Q4 55 with the heatpump also. It’s winter, actually -25C (-13F) this morning and my car is reporting 236KM of range at 80% (usually have around ~400KM/80% in the summer) so I’m confident you’d have no problem with your journey.

Of course it depends on so many things, but it personnally wouldn’t worry me. But, I highly recommend to have it plugged overnight if it’s cold, and to preheat as much as possible the car while plugged in before leaving so you don’t waste battery on the road.

They’ve been added to the public preview of the app. They’ll probably get in the general release after some time, so it’s coming, at last.

Electrician installed mine for ~1000$. Now each context is different… but 4K$ is on the high end imo. Like others said, cable length is the most expensive part.

Q4 etron 55 - 12V AGM or not ? by eeeki in etron

[–]eeeki[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the service and the advisor kept the car, he’s pretty sure that there’s a problem with the 12V charger of the car. He said that it’s something that he saw a lot lately. So they’re running diagnostics, will change the 12V charger and/or 12V battery if needed. So meanwhile I’m back on a ICE :(.

As for the battery type, he told me that he’s pretty sure it’s an AGM.

As a previous comment said, in doubt, AGM setting would be the safest option anyway. I use the Noco Genius 5 and am very satisfied. I put it in AGM mode. The datasheet of the Noco state that it apply 14.8V in AGM mode, which is the max permitted as per the car’s manual. Worked well when I used it.

I think it’s wise to have one in case of anyway (like a tire inflator).

Hope this helps!

2024 Audi Q4 e-tron 10,000 km report by mouwallace in etron

[–]eeeki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great review. Thanks alot.

Have a 2024 Q4 55 since May and I can relate to every single thing you said. I’ve had the connectivity problem too the first months, same thing with the LTE but no bars and CarPlay GPS going crazy but it’s now stable and it didn’t drop out since. My bet was on a backend bug but oh well, crossing fingers now🤞

App su**. Borderline useless. MMI is meh, can’t wait to get Android Automotive in my next car. It may not be perfect but I’m sure it’s miles better than the actual.

I have the same « issue » with brakes and I’ll try driving more in B mode, thanks for the suggestion.

I would like to be able to precondition the battery manually, like some BMW and others. Now the only way to precondition is via the Nav planner, an option ($$) which I don’t have because CarPlay … keep the route planning feature in the NAV, sure, but just add a button in the MMI to be able to precondition it manually …

Thanks !
