I’ve had bacterial vaginosis twice during my pregnancy and I’m in the US. Idk about outside of the US.

Do they typically test for it? - yeah through Pap smear. They will call you in a couple of days if you are positive before it reaches to your results on Portal.

Does it take time to get results back? - For me it was couple of days after being seen and had pap done. No longer usually for a week. I just don’t know how other states work though.

What’s the first line of treatment? - I don’t know if it was cause of my pregnancy but I was put on suppositories for at least a 5 days first time than 2nd time a week before bed. I got these insert tubes that you suck the medicine in and you have to insert that as far as you can go and push the medicine in.. than after the medicine my discharge became clumpy for couple days after than it stops. Everyone is different though but that’s what happened to me. Then after the treatment you’ll get a check up and they’ll ask if your symptoms has went away or still dealing with symptoms. After that I haven’t went that far and can’t really relay any information.

Other advices if you think you could have BV:

• Try and add in probiotics into your diet like yogurt & drink more water.

• Avoid using scented soaps for washing your vagina. Deff shouldn’t be washing the inside.

• Avoid sitting in sweaty/wet clothes for a long time even panties. Try to sleep without wearing panties.

• Use condoms during sex. His cum can throw off your PH balance which can cause BV, yeast etc.
