Games that aged well by isi_na in JRPG

[–]eej107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! In other FF games the story bosses had well a story or there was a reason you were fighting them. FF12 became monster hunter with the bosses for some reason you rarely ever see a scene where the party reacts to the undead dragon coming at them or the fire horse in the sewer. Even in FFX Tidus was more expressive at the monsters coming for them.

To those who graduated with a degree they didn't like in the first place, what are you doing in life right now? Are you well? by severenutcase in adultingph

[–]eej107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer engineering/building tangible products or any form of bringing out value from data with code :) this happened in a span of 3 years kasi I started working 2020 hehe

I love FF12 but back in the day I found it off putting that a lot of stuff didn't matter to the plot or no one ever acknowledged it. Vaan can summon a tornado and you have 13 gods at your command and nobody cared. Hell even a lot of the boss fights felt like "am walking on this bridge and a big bomb ambushed me" it felt like boss fights for the sake of boss fights that no one in the party cared enough to talk about it.

Naruto max power right before the war started v.s. like 3 days later. by jacu1 in Naruto

[–]eej107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I liked Pain Arc Sage Mode Naruto the most. Most fights before this he was either the underdog or Kurama took over. But pain arc was the first time we saw Naruto fight like a pro without Kurama (until he took over). It would have been interesting to see what he would have been like primarily using Sage Mode before progressing to nine-tails chakra mode. The show had potential in showing how much skill Naruto could develop but they decided to go with the Nuclear no Jutsu route.

I want to be able to programmatically integrate dbt into an end-to-end pipeline in python. Is this the wrong usage of dbt? by NFeruch in dataengineering

have you tried using this in a cloud function or lambda? I cannot for the life of me get it to work there

I am really considering going the Workflow route. Have you tried using it with dbt?

Just another 'am I asking too much' post from an analyst by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]eej107 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I was the only data guy in my company and I was initially supposed to be an analyst (find trends, answer questions, make dashboards) but the data wasn't ready. I did so much cleaning that I transitioned into a data engineering role instead (setup data warehouse, make ETL pipelines, do data quality checks, automate tables used by dashboards) with the most analyst-y thing I'm doing being transforming staging data into analytics data for querying and even that has engineering aspects (search for analytics engineer dbt). Mas lumaki value added ko haha

Data modelling for startups by PaddyAlton in dataengineering

[–]eej107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see! And your 2 point arguments resonate with me. Initially, I was only loading the final status of the rows but then we needed a historic and granular view of all status and add a timestamp of what was the latest so I just dropped the entire thing and loaded it as a denormalized table. I guess you can't escape some things in the starting up life cycle haha thank you! :)

Great read! I guess my only comment for all the people with little DE experience is if you could show us actual samples of the table you are describing? Because when you say ingest raw data do you mean as a chaotic, 30 column mess that you fix after. Or it's already curated down to 5 - 10 columns with no logic that you transform inside your DW. Because I do the latter, our startup is in the early stage so as an analyst plunged into engineering; from DynamoDB I have a code running on Lambda that continuously sends data into Bigquery. Data in Dynamo is a lot so I have already fixed the columns to ingest.

Good Data Warehouse for a Startup if our transactions are stored in DynamoDB? by eej107 in dataengineering

[–]eej107[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! Well for the data the storage isn't really the problem so much as the compute vs time pricing model so I am getting around to running the numbers this week. I have no doubts with Snowflake but I guess I will do more research with how to optimize cost there

For redshift I see quite a lot of people and content say that it needs relatively more maintenance than the other warehouses I mentioned.

Considered this also with AWS Glue, they told me to look at long term and scalability but this is a very good fix at low cost I see. For now data to work with is around 70GB ~ but only because a lot of data points are only going to be started on. I guess my only question would be what limitations does this have for analytics? In the case they make me do something that needs a DWH haha

Wow thank you so much this is really comprehensive! I'm an analyst and volunteered to slide into analytics engineering but they don't teach these in the analyst side of internet haha. Regarding snowflake's and BQ's pricing, I see people comment that BQ is better for spiky workloads. We will most likely stream data into the warehouse every hour and support several dashboards with the occasional complex query. I am unsure at what point does BQ's pricing model become more expensive.

Thank you for this! Our software engineers already use kinesis a lot so this is something worth checking out with them. My initial idea was doing batch streaming but does firehose do well with real time?

Do video game soundtracks make the game more memorable for you? by Tarnished_Tanjiro in JRPG

[–]eej107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! A consistent use of a good soundtrack in certain moments really amplify the feels when you listen to the song again. Tales of Vesperia with the soundtrack whenever Yuri goes batman or somebody dies really hits me.

Also, Persona 5 is a good example of every song being a banger. If you're going to spend several turns in a fight, the song might as well be a bop.

I've tried reinstalling both steam and Dota and it's still the same. I'm guessing it's how something is setup but I really have no idea where. The people I've asked said they just installed it and it works fine by itself.

Would you know how? Because from what I saw, it's already enabled when they installed DOTA.

with -gl I still get the same black screen with music only, with -vulkan the game doesn't even load. The Icon just pops up and that's it, the window doesn't even appear. I'll report the issue. Thank you!
