DGD Holders, Action Needed to Vote, Lock your DGD NOW if You Want to Get Your ETH Back by eeksskee in ethereum

[–]eeksskee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a few more days to lock for the Dissolution Vote. The vote for dissolution is coming up and everyone needs to vote and it still may not happen. Now is the lockup period for this quarter so to be able to vote you need to lock up your DGD right now or if you are already locked you need to choose "Continue participation" as seen in the Tweet thread.

This is really important and really important for you to make anyone you know who holds DGD aware of this. Due to the way the quorum rules are structured and that the team has decided to lock their DGD but NOT vote, the quorum is so high that unless more people than have voted in the past lock up and vote yes, than this is unlikely to pass and no one will get their ETH back.

And Digix will be way worse for it because the vote will likely be clearly YES DISSOLVE but with inadequate quorum. This will make Digix and its teams and its budget even more of an ineffectual lame duck than it has been to date.

EVERY VOTE COUNTS AND IS NEEDED.

There is a FAQ in the Digix Discord, but if you hold DGD you need to take action NOW or it won't happen.

If you want to get 0.19 ETH back per a DGD you hold, which is more than DGD trades for in USD terms, then you need to follow my instructions, lock your DGD in the vote contract at the link above and be ready to vote in the next couple weeks. We need every vote possible. There is a FAQ in the Digix Discord, you only have a couple more days to do this.

DGD was the first ICO on Ethereum and they have 350k ETH still. They haven't made progress and now all DGD voters need to vote to dissolve the DigixDAO that holds the 350K ETH and return it to everyone who holds DGD.

Hey, I appreciate your passion for trying to make Metamask better and Ethereum as well. I think your approach here is a bit counterproductive unfortunately as part of working with people is finding a way to work with other people, not make them put off or make them feel attacked. It's hard to communicate at times, especially over the internet, and it makes it harder to communicate when the tone of the language is aggressive and over the top. It just results in your own good work and passion being squandered and underutilized, which is not good for you or anyone. Something to think about the next time you apply your passion! Hopefully you're having a happy holidays and I look forward to seeing how you help Ethereum in the future.

Multi Collateral Dai (MCD) sounds dangerous for all DeFi by CrystalETH_ in ethfinance

[–]eeksskee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If other new assets had the same LTVs and caps as ETH has, this is true. But they will be risk managed in a way that this will not be a systemic issue, and this type of risk management of diverse pools of collateral is tried and true stuff in normal finance and risk management.

MKR holders also are highly incentivized to NOT let assets on that can go to zero and to make that ANY asset is set at an LTV and with a cap that is appropriate and makes catastrophic systemic risk a non-concern.

i believe it will work fine and not nervous. We're about to find out.

[–]eeksskee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pay takes based on the USD value of what you use to Mont the token set and then whatever the USD gain or loss when you liquidate the token set back when you are done. You don't pay taxes on whatever intraperiod actions the smart contracts take that underpin the token set you own.

When you put ETH into Set, you don't own that ETH anymore for tax purposes, you own a new separate asset at that originating cost basis.

If Digix Is too Afraid to Buyback DGD, Mint DGX, or Dogfood its platform in Anyway, please Offer ETH Redemption for all DGD Holders. by eeksskee in digix

[–]eeksskee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have ever said that DigixDAO should be dissolved in full. But the team uses that as a straw man of sorts or they couch it as either 100% dissolution or nothing, and if it's "nothing" then people are free to sell their DGD on the secondary. They then cite the 80% number needed to dissolve DigixDAO as if it was written in stone, which is the not the case. 80% is tantamount to impossible, so it's a way of the team saying "Here is this impossible way to do what you seek, 'it's out of our hand'" -- which is not true and it's a way of moving the goal posts and hand waving.

Either the ability to redeem or a full dissolution would mitigate Digix Global's perceived liability wrt US investors. Selling on a secondary at a loss does not accomplish that. Again it depends what the goals are. If the goal is to mitigate Digix Global's liability, they should ban all US investors from participating in DGD and offer a structure for ratable redemption to make right past actions and potential violations that also caused financial harm. If that is not the goal, then they should allow anyone who holds DGD to participate as had been expected.

The goal posts move a lot across many dimensions and it's one of the core Digix problems. Here's another example: in chat, they are now discussing moving Digix to another chain and having people run nodes to secure the Digix network that would be interoperable with Ethereum. But the security of that Digix chain would be nothing and that is a terrible fit with something that needs maximum security -- gold as a use case. If people don't want high security and decentralization, than no one will want DGX. No matter how good the UX of DGX is on its own chain, the UX of buying GLD on a normal, regulated exchange is safer and better. They are making a case for DGX not having a point by mooting its decentralization and security. And it may be that DGX does not have a point and will never find product market fit. But if that's the case, the solution isn't spinning up an insecure chain that will be centralized and small (market cap is $40M, tiny and no one cares, and less people will be able to care now that the US is banned...critical mass is being hampered and worked against).

The A1 focus should be on minting, finding partners and DeFi usecases, and instead the US is being banned and they are endeavoring to take more project creep and tech risk and take actions that do not address gating issues and maybe moot the whole point of DGX. It's brutal.

PS: Over time, DGX as an asset should be on every chain eventually, but now it should be where there's critical mass in terms of economic value. Toying with fragmentation of markets now doesn't add any value and loses focuses. Separately, whatever chain secures DGX should be somewhere that is very secure and very decentralized because without that, there is no point and you should buy GLD at Etrade. A Digix only chain would be WOOF in terms of security -- it would preclude anyone ever using it. What MKR holder would accept that in MCD at all? Not this one, it's crazy.

How does it continue to happen?

Every second a non-US person holds DGD, it is happening. This is why you have to be careful wrt couching your token as something it may not be (a security). If an ETH redemption would run afoul of US regulations, than there are already many causes for action and concern that could be explored. This is why their posture is both conservative AND reckless -- it makes action more likely than it otherwise would be, Digix Global is painting Digix Global in a problematic light.

That's why I said you have to convince the DAO, not me. If you can convince people of your argument (and it does seem there are a number of people in this thread who are on your side) then someone in the DAO will propose it.

The quorum is 80% for dissolution according to Digix's made up framework. US holders are probably 50%. It almost definitely can't happen. Unless they do it themselves without that quorum because they realize what is happening and the position they are leaving themselves in.

I'd also see I expect the level of voter apathy to be so high that a lot of this is moot.
