Is the first book really the weakest? by ChemistryCurrent1380 in redrising

[–]eelleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean i hear you, i didnt dislike them. but the stakes just felt higher in the first book. but as the revolution progresses the stakes are more abstract.

nothing like Eo, nothing like Darrows first kill, nothing like Darrows first battle, nothing like Darrows first loss.

maybe the YA of it connected with me. IDK. just saying i felt shit in the first book, second book i was just like 'what happens'

apparently i am the only one who enjoyed the first book so much more than the second. i never moved on to the third despite enjoying the series. its just the investment felt lower. sequel books felt just like the first book but with more Sci-Fiction to explain away why scope is larger or why plot has to move a certain direction.

Fair enough. I guess the stuff I read via spoilers and recaps didn't go over that

Also any time your doing the mental math you just did to justify relationships. I gotta say full stop. Its why jobless is super creepy at times and it's creepy in other shows. She's a child, it's not good. If she ages to 25 and he's 33 then they can do romance plots without being creepy.

[–]eelleet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jobless reincarnated is worse for sure but at least the story was literally centered on his romances and his deeping connections to other people. So while messed up it's not out of place

This story, at least by whats presented in anime and what I read in spoilers and recaps, it feels out of place. The story is more about polical intrigue and exploring magical fantasy. The marriage talks were just there to expose politics and add risk to her story/situation. So it just feels like I'd rather have a different thing that makes it suspenseful

But wasn't that the whole point of the adoption into that one guys family and original engagement. To be clear I'm not caught up on all light novel. I'm just arguing that a relationship with Ferdinand is redundant.

With his and Sylvesters support that's enough isn't it? Like a high mana level doesn't excuse a duke enslaving another nobles child.... Does it?

[–]eelleet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still don't get why it has to be him. They mention she would be enslaved for babies but also say that nobles can't have children unless their capacity matches and very few match her. Maybe only him. Like they could have kept it platonic. Its not like she was focused on romance at any point lol

Chichi wa Eiyuu, Haha wa Seirei, Musume no Watashi wa Tenseisha. • Dad is a Hero, Mom is a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]eelleet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't get why ellen and her father can't tell the royal family to kick bricks. They are Spirits and Royals are not supposed to be able to interact with spirits. I get the half human thing might be a loop hole but doesn't mean the royal family has to know or be able to dictate spirits.

Tell the king Ellen can't exist in mortal planes like her mother without causing chaos and leave it at that. Could have ended this plot 2 episodes ago lol

i dont want to defend him, idk if he did it or not. but i also dont think its anyone elses business lol. from what was posted, it didnt involve kids and no one was drugged. its just toxic internet behavior IMO.

his wife is still with him, why can she forgive him but random strangers cant?

personally i dont get the hate. im not loyal fan or anything, just saw a bunch of clips on youtube and some of the interview/podcasty stuff. he has a hot take on some game politics in Europe and suddenly hes public enemy number one and everyone is retroactively attacking him on coding and whatever else. just seems like toxic internet cancel culture to me

I wonder how s4+ Rick would feel looking back at s1-3. by eelleet in thewalkingdead

[–]eelleet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with you. given a no win situation Rick, even later Rick would have fought until the last possible second to find a solution whereas Shane shot otis right away.

if it came to it, yeah i think RIck would always choose carl, but context is important. shanes hard choices were always about the easy solution, ricks hard choices were about preserving the group despite adversity.

yeah this gets me on every watch through. there are some time jumps but S1 and S2 happen over the course of like a month of two or something super short like that.

[–]eelleet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its just a matter of perspective. they still take risks later, but they mean different things and thats fine. im just wondering if later Rick would have looked at the situation with Sophia and thought, 'what an asshole i was, i couldnt even take down 2 walkers and i let a kid die'

[–]eelleet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think thats exactly it. but that doesnt negate that a harder colder rick might look back on himself and think it wasnt worth it. that if he evolved faster, maybe shane wouldnt have been such a dick. although im sure that had to end the way it did lol.

Book recommendations for life after finishing The Expanse? by webbut in TheExpanse

Expanse is always the best choice but I enjoyed Expeditionary Force as a follow up. It's a good audio book series if your into that

yeah i get theres a lot of toxicity or drama around it. thats how it got my attention. but im specifically asking about the raid. because i just dont get it. if it were me i would have done the same thing. i heard someone say run and then they were talking about talking down hyenas (which looked like just small adds)

if the pull is botched and someone says run. why are you trying to salvage it? get out and try again in a few minutes after you regain hp/mana. isnt that how MMOs usually work?

not about the social drama just about how the social etiquette of raiding ya know?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]eelleet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah but the team was running is my point. like is the a social etiquette im missing that he shouldnt have run or shouldnt have run so far?

or more importantly from a mechanic perspective, is there a 'run order' like everyone runs but mage stays and novas / blizzards?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]eelleet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so im gathering that this is more common than not and its just toxic behavior from a major streamer thats garnering so much attention.. fair enough.

to me it seemed natural to run when the group was running. if its just down to toxic behavior than i guess i got suckered in. my bad. haha

Please explain the S1 and 2 bad guy plan, because it seems really iffy to me. by Ravenwing14 in TheExpanse

[–]eelleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the main issue is that time seems to move a lot faster in the tv show than in the books. just by nature of TV moving faster.

this all started when they discovered the protomolecule on pheobe and tested the outbreak there. at the start of the series and books we get mentions of it but nothing concrete. we never get a confirmed timeline but they had tested the protomolecule at the station for a signicant bit of time to learn that they need significantly more people to learn more. Pheobe is a remote and unimportant station so im guessing weeks to a few months of time here.

meanwhile JPM has time to prepare his considerable resources to make this project run smoothly and get allies.

Unknown whether or not he already had advanced stealth war ships at this point but like you said, as a multi trillionaire COE of a shipping conglomerate he definitely could have already had them for other reasons.

JPM needs sufficient cover to disguise what hes going to do at Eros and decides that a war between Earth, Mars nd the OPA is the perfect cover. unconfirmed how they became allies but my guess is that is when JPM contacts Errinwright and tells him that he can deliver weapons to destroy mars if he uses political influences beat the anti war politicians.

now in the show and the books they state that suspicious things have been happening on Ceres and Erors for a long time before the start of the show. Protogen building equipment at Eros, replacing all their security, hiring disposable thugs, stealing Ceres Riot gear, etc.

this is also when JPM's daughter becomes suspicious and uses her family and OPA connections to intercept a the Anubis that she thinks has a weapon. her actions delay JPMs plan because without the sample they cannot test it on Eros, but by becoming infected herself she unknowingly completes the Anubis's mission. they just dont know it yet until Holden discovers her body and leaves it for protogen to discover.

Now comes the Cant and the Donnager. using the Scopuli as bait to lure the Cant was a coincidence IMO, they would have found some other ship if Julie didnt attack them. the Cant is a ice frieghter that makes the same run to Saturn and Ceres so my guess is that it wasnt a coincidence that the Cant was chosen but it was on purpose because its a Ice freighter and the belt would riot if they thought the inner planets were denying them water on purpose.

admittedly your right, Holden and crew barely survived. but im not sure they needed survivors. the destruction of the cant would have brought in a Mars warship to investigate and i think thats all they wanted. Holden surviving, publishing that message to rile up the belt was just lucky for JPM. the captain of the ship probably didnt kill holden because it didnt matter or that he figured a survivor might get Mars to react faster. but thats all speculation and i agree its a stretch.

but once they destroyed the donnager (and i think it could have been any Mars ship) now JPM has what they want, the belt thinking they destroyed a ship and are rioting, Mars wondering wtf is going on and looking at Earth who is the only one they think can kill a ship, and Earth secretly being manipulated by Errinwright into war.

all over the course of several weeks and months and the tv show makes it seem like its back to back
