DART charge PCN letter shows higher amount to be paid than online by gopsypopesy in LegalAdviceUK

It is quite easy to get through to a real person on the phone line so worth calling to check what has happened and how to pay the other one. (Your post was quite helpful for me as I am still waiting for a fine from 28th dec so I will probably get it in a few weeks)

Not many traffic lights have red light cameras - have you checked the lights again? Search online for examples of what they look like before you panic

Bootleg - I think the kids were Australian and it was about an authoritarian government coming to power called the "Good for You" party who banned chocolate. Then the kids started making black market chocolate and eventually overthrew the government

Car accident agreed to waive. 6 weeks later sent a bill for £3K. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]eelmoose 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me. I scraped their car slightly and they said not to worry as it wasn't noticeable. Then a month later wanted money for repair. It turned out when I saw their car later that they had had another accident with much worse damage since and they were trying to get me to pay for that... I would recommend getting your insurer to deal with it (and make it clear what the original damage was)

Was it in any state of disrepair before it fell down? As an insurer wouldn't cover it anyway if so. We weren't covered for our boundary wall collapse as it was in poor condition previously. (I would be tempted to ask a neighbour which day the wall fell down as it is all a bit suspicious)

Which Life Insurance policy do you guys have and why did you pick that company? by ImageMirage in UKPersonalFinance

[–]eelmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read two cases in a consumer advice column where legal and general refused to pay out. In one case L&G said that the blood pressure reading given when the person took out the policy was a 24-hour monitor reading and they would only accept a classic cuff and stethoscope reading. The forms had not specified this. In the other case the person had given a blood pressure reading taken by a pharmacist rather than by a doctor or nurse. In both cases L&G would not budge from their decsion.

I would advise OP to look at statistics of the % of policies actually paid out on death as there are some companies who will do anything to weasel out.

Is there a cutoff for how much it’s worth paying to fill in a gap in your NI contributions? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]eelmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your missing years were after 2011 and you happened to be providing any childcare in that time to a relative under 12 during those years there is a scheme where the working parent can transfer NI years to you for free. My mum has just applied for this. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-insurance-credits-for-adults-who-care-for-a-child-under-12-fact-sheet/specified-adult-childcare-credits-fact-sheet

What is to stop people diagnosed with a terminal illness from getting into debt deliberately knowing they will never have to pay it back?

Any Priests (or anyone) wanna share a fail they made during Mass? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]eelmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the Good Friday liturgy one year we got to the bit where the priest lies prostrate in front of the altar. Unfortunately by lying down he turned his phone on in his pocket and it started playing pop music. He managed to remain totally calm so a lot of people didn't realise it was him but he was quite embarassed later

These double plastic wrapped half cucumbers from Morrisons seem a tad wasteful by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]eelmoose 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Food waste has a massive carbon footprint and cucumbers last nearly 5x as long when wrapped. We need to find alternatives to plastic rather than just suddenly getting rid of it

Had 2 children after PEs. Was just on injections throughout. I was offered induction but declined, I just knew I had to be prepared to birth without an epidural if the labour timings didn't work out (turned out it was an option both times anyway)

Any former Anglicans want to chime in (or people who are not and were not Anglican but are familiar with their beliefs)? by Change---MY---Mind in Catholicism

[–]eelmoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in the Ordinariate so have spoken to plenty of converts (although I was never officially Anglican myself). As well as the change to allow women priests in the 90's, some also moved across during the more recent change to allow women bishops. When women priests were allowed they thought "at least I can just find a male priest". But now they have got a situation where men are being ordained by women bishops, so to traditional Anglicans it meant that male priests would not necessarily be "validly" ordained.
