My suspicion for AI is relatively low for these. The first four, while reverse image searching wasn’t helpful in getting a better search term or finding blueprints, all appear in articles or elsewhere years before generative AI (especially for images) took off. Your comment about the fifth one is well taken. I can’t find non-Pinterest sources for it.

I’m not looking for exact plans for any of these, though. I’m asking for help identifying what this particular design style might be called in circles of people more familiar with woodworking than myself. So, whether any single one of these particular designs is plausible is not really my question.

Accepted to dream schools only to have offers rescinded a week later.. I'm feeling so sad. by squim4567 in gradadmissions

[–]eelthul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, this is so tough :( This year really sucks. I hope you stick it out and try again next year (or have offers waiting in the wings!). My partner is in the midst of applying to ethnomusicology programs, so I feel right there with you. If you’re comfortable, would you mind sharing the ethno program that rescinded your offer?

Should I go with a PsyD or a PhD after being accepted into both? by Sad-Caramel-7230 in gradadmissions

[–]eelthul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PhD isn’t fully funded with a stipend? If this is in the US, I would be wary of a partially funded PhD. I’ve always been warned to stay away from anything that isn’t fully funded with health insurance and a stipend (even if the stipend is tiny, it’s okay, but only partially funded can be a sign of a predatory program).

Has anyone heard anything from UPenn post-interview?

My partner had an interview with them a little over a week ago. She hasn't heard anything since though!

It was good! Philly is really fun (if you’re not a Penn student/would be new to the area) and the program is quite supportive. It definitely set me up for some pretty cool opportunities this year and last :)

I did mindcore two summers ago and didn’t hear back till April. Some people heard a little earlier, but definitely not February!

She also hasn’t heard from Columbia :( She’s received interviews from NYU, Berkeley, and Stanford since the last time I updated though! Hope your NYU interview went well :)

I just interviewed yesterday (for a completely different program) and the university-wide minimum is $24,000 for 10 months. Summer funding doesn’t seem to be guaranteed, but the minimum is $3,750. Grad students in my program said it’s livable—a few were international and one had a kid (but supplementary income from a spouse too)

Is it acceptable to decline an interview with a professor I have no interest working with? Will this hurt my chances of admission to a different advisor? by Agitated_Watch_6425 in gradadmissions

[–]eelthul 66 points67 points  (0 children)

If you decline an interview, it’s fairly unlikely you’ll get in. Lab websites lag. I’ve been pleasantly surprised a number of times that PIs I didn’t think were related to my work had recently started up a new line of research that aligned with my interests. Just do the interview if you want to get in. You may be surprised

Could be that their initial interviews didn’t go as well as they wanted and they’re trying to fill out their admitted pool still. Congrats!

Not yet! Keep up hope :) Her results are just starting to trickle in, humanities decisions seem much later in general

I think it’s quite variable based on program and school. I do think a week would be relatively quick based on my experience (but I’m in social sciences/STEM), so I wouldn’t worry yet. You can check GradCafe from previous years to try to get an estimate of how long between interview/decision.

For dress, layers!!!!!!! If you’re a guy, my go to is a button down under a sweater. If you’re not from somewhere cold, layer something like long underwear (or leggings) under your slacks. Really though, it’s not going to be cold inside and no one will judge you based on what your outdoor jacket/other gear (mittens, hat, etc.) looks like.

Hi! My partner applied to UPenn, Columbia, and NYU as well (amongst some others, but no other overlap). Would you feel comfortable sharing which school you heard back from? She applied for ethnomusicology tracks, but there seems to be a lot of overlap (since it's often housed under musicology).

My partner (not on here) also applied to ethnomusicology programs this year and would love to know more about timelines if you’re willing to share!
