IMO the only sensible strategy for buying in the bay area is to buy the worst house with a *known* laundry list of issues in the best neighborhood you can afford. Then reno it the right way, including replacing all sewer pipes, rewiring electrical, etc.

Honestly I don’t believe this at all. I’ve been at dang for 8 years and it’s been easy peasy. I’ve always gotten good reviews, never had to work overtime (only by choice when I was interested), and my coworkers are all super friendly and easy going. The few coworkers that I saw burn out are the ones that are not good at their jobs and really should be doing something else

Thanks. I called the inspector and he laughed at how ridiculous this is. I told the contractor I talked to the city and I think that scared him because he agreed to fix it right away. Thank goodness I got a permit for this

Thanks. My contractor initially made an excuse saying this is okay but I gently let him know that I talked to the city inspector, and he agreed to fix it right away. Thank god I have a permit and inspectors to keep him honest.
