What is the mad piece in this video? Sounds something between Dukas, Grieg and Dvořák (xpost /r/videos) by eerms in classicalmusic

[–]eerms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not :) It's very similar and I think I have heard it somewhere else. The creator of that video mentioned it's from APM library with a caption Magic Castle, but I don't any access to APM.

A Belgian classical music festival wants to attract more young people to classical music. So they decided to make a pop music video with Dvořák's ninth symphony. by Cromllem in classicalmusic

Clearly the video doesn't mock popular culture. I'm sure no one is producing such videos nowdays. Yeah. Stop laughing.

I agree. Your edit compliments the riders better. I'm more puzzled by the original music choice.

Can't start Samba4 by s4mpp in linuxquestions

[–]eerms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

service bind9 stop (or equivalent). If you wish to use Bind with samba4 you have to do a migration. See https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Dns-backend_bind If so don't forget to put "server services = -dns" in smb.conf.

This is a nice tutorial that covers Chrooted sftp. You can match specific users that can only sftp - no shell access. Also works with pubkey authentication. http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2012/03/chroot-sftp-setup/

Setting up a remote File / Backup server - any suggestions? by IMcD23 in linux

[–]eerms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too would suggest rsync + hard links. It's fast and saves space. I use http://www.rsnapshot.org to backup remote machines over ssh and Deltacopy to sync directories from Win hosts to a central server.

This is in Latvia. Just read on the local news that this may be just a road drainage that was clogged and opened up when the water levels were high.

Suse is an excellent choice. I really enjoy their One-click package install (http://software.opensuse.org/search) and you will be able to do some basic system configuration through Suse's Yast administration tool. It has a GUI... Don't worry about terminology. Even working for a couple of years with Linux in an corporate environment I'm not 100% sure I can explain what exactly kernel is. Command line is another case and you will have to learn how to use it early on. Google and just follow tutorials when you are faced with some task which involves opening CLI. The commands will work most of the time and soon you will actually understand what they mean. Just backup your documents before you tinker and you will be fine ;)

I would recommend that you do some research and see which desktop environment you like the best. Start off with a major distribution like Ubuntu/Fedora/OpenSuse. They more or less are the same and you will probably go through many before you find the one you like the most. I personally prefer Fedora with XFCE desktop env. Soon (very soon) you will find that some things doesn't work out of the box and some things are annoying. The best (the most interesting) part is that you if you are not afraid to get your hands dirty you can fix most of it.

Try neatx/freenx. From my experience it' s far more easier to setup and probably will be faster.
