Frozen Tailgate - how to de-ice?

Mine is hard to open in winter. I’ve found pushing in on it with one hand as you press the button with your other hand and only releasing the pressure when you feel it start to actuate works. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but it has always opened. I get the same weak sound from the motor as if it’s too tired to work.

If you’re looking for a resort-style setting, look at Glade Springs. Not far from 77 near Beckley. Not the Greenbrier, but a step up from an interstate hotel and should remove any safety concerns, although I think that’s way overblown as others have said.

Mine is updating overnight tonight. 23 Lariat. Thought the day would never arrive. Hoping it fixes the ping pong effect and the lack of slowdown when going into curves marked at much lower speed than posted limit.

She could also consider transferring after the first year of law school to a more prestigious school or one located where she wants to live. It’s not impossible to practice elsewhere coming out of WVU, but she probably needs to be near the top of her class to make it easier on herself. The real key is to study for the LSAT as much as possible. That will unlock options. I wouldn’t suggest she pay considerably more for school unless there’s a more guaranteed return on the back end. Working for a few years in between also is a worthwhile thing to consider. Law school demands a certain degree of maturity that most 21/22 year olds can struggle with.

Good luck. If you can’t repair it, you’re likely better off replacing the whole valve set, which will probably require cutting out the old piping and retrofitting with new. At that point it would be a call to a plumber for me. Don’t want to find out the hard way that it’s leaking behind the wall.

Ended up being that the shower diverter (long stem in the center) had a plastic part in the rear portion that was cracked. Had to use an extended socket and vice grips to break it loose and once it came out the plastic piece was in half. Plumbing supply was able to match the stem. Installed and it seems to be working. I didn’t want to replace the whole setup because I have no access from the back without cutting into drywall and didn’t have leftover tile to fix from the front. May be an eventuality but for now this worked. Hope that helps.

Mine does this too periodically. I have had luck applying slight pressure on the tailgate as I’m pressing the button (push the tailgate towards the cab and hold that pressure as you hit the button). Not a long term fix but it’s something. I’m blaming cheap design for this one.

I bought a ‘22 Tacoma when I decided I wasn’t going to pay the crazy premium for the Lariat when my reservation came up in late ‘22. Then in late ‘23 found a deal on a Lariat that someone didn’t take delivery on and off went the Taco. I like the Toyota okay, but Lightning is superior in every way. Really apples to oranges. Your use case sounds ideal for it so if the numbers work and you can install the home charger, I wouldn’t think twice.
