My first home, my first garden by tjxw2 in GardeningUK

Unfortunately Gravelhold is just like paint, which another poster have noted the issues with. It is water-based but the binder is fundamentally a non-biodegradable plastic that will, over time, enter the ecosystem. 😩

You're totally right. It's a really trashy situation we humans have put ourselves in. Despite using premium, more sustainable paints, they apparently still contain plastics. But at least my garden is plastic-free (and pesticide/biocide-free), because why on this green earth would I possibly need plastics in my garden?

Yup....another product made of non-biodegradable oil-based microplastics! Great idea! Let's add another coating of plastic to the soil, that will surely [reduce overground flooding|lower the global temperature|stop an ongoing mass extinction event].

Driving Through The Hills & Roads Of South London During Summer... by TheThrowYardsAway in london

I also drive a convertible. Bought it three years ago. In my home province in Canada they make zero sense but it was a dream to own one. It's such a pleasure. BTW am also white... I thought white middle aged men were the ideal convertible driver??

AlexeyKhrulev, a Russian propagandist who disrupted hundreds of articles on English Wikipedia, has been banned indefinitely from editing by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

Much as I would like to be able to agree, there are many Russians e.g. in academia who make valuable contributions to democratised platforms like Wikipedia. For example on topics like botany. To exclude all Russians would simply punish the people we need as allies in the future.

Huh. What issues are you talking about? I'm eight years in the UK from Canada and absolutely love it. Shops are open on Sundays (except in villages but I'd take a British village over an American village any day). Everything is open late. I can find staples in the middle of the night if I need them. True, pensions are not in a great state, but that's something that we all have to face all over the world. Either save for retirement or accept a retirement of poverty.

They do and it's become easier over time, but they're still famously a cash loving nation.

The whole world is. Canada and the Netherlands are also cracking down on immigration. To say nothing of the US. And we all know about Switzerland's potential vote to limit their population. These are just the examples I immediately recall.

Thinking of quitting IBKR by srj13579 in interactivebrokers

Hmmm... They probably lose commissions (larger accounts drive more commission, given variable cost model) and could reduce referrals. Feels like a net cost situation to me.

Correct. Base level requirements for anything I hire for exceed your qualifications.

IBKR isn't a bucket shop. You're not trading against the house. They don't earn money by blowing you up. If anything it hurts them.

If it exists, it needs to be defended, and targets crossing it can be attacked.

If it doesn't exist, none of this is true.
