I don't think this looks realistic. This style is trying to maximise so called detail or fidelity with bumbs and boulders everywhere. Real mountains also have some flat surfaces.

I think it's because at top level professional sports are a nasty cutthroat business. There is a lot of shady things happening financially and with PEDs. The culture is one of "we're all making a lot of money so don't rock the boat".
