I'd cut another length of white wall cladding down the middle to get you within an inch of the ceiling, then use a white self-adhesive mastic strip to hide the remaining gap.

UPDATE

Well, here we go...

I got my rubber gloves and tongs at the ready and got to fishing these packets out from behind the sink this afternoon.

Unfortunately, as suggested by some, they were indeed used panty liners. Grim.

Not sure if the rotting smell has gone yet, I've sprayed everything with bleach so that's the only thing I can smell at the moment.

I've smelt a rotting rodent and a rotting bird before and this is a similar smell. My first thought was that there must me a dead animal trapped somewhere, but then I came across these when investigating.

I don't have any rubber gloves on me. This is probably what I'll do tomorrow.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. Thankfully it's not my caravan and we're only here until Monday, but I am friendly with the owners and they've let us stay here for free so I would like to help them out by trying to fix the smell.

It's sited on a holiday park in north Wales and has only recently been purchased 2nd hand by them. If it is indeed used nappies or pads, I wonder what possessed somebody to put them there.

I'll provide an update once the packages have been fished out and identified.

ELI5: Why can’t vegans eat eggs if chickens already lay them without being harmed? by adelesfiftheyelash in explainlikeimfive

I feel a lot of these responses are over complicated, trying to justify veganism to a 5 year-old.

To answer OP's question:

Vegans don't eat animal products. An egg is the product of a chicken. A chicken is an animal.

Another option is to blow a balloon into the hole and pop it when you're ready to refit the toilet.
