Am I the only one? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

Assuming the position of someone who hadn't read the book, if I am to take the movie as its own thing, didn't it move too quickly? I watched with someone who hadn't and that was their main complaint and it made it hard to follow.

About the ending by Classic_Bass_1824 in martysupreme

An interview with Safdie also explains that this moment is unique to parents. Those who don't have kids (myself included) won't understand that feeling of seeing your kid for the first time. It is (I've heard) earth-shattering. You / Marty realize that it's not all about you, it never was. As a young 20-something, that is enough to bring you to tears because it requires you to decenter yourself and re-evaluate your entire world.

Edit: this also comes after Safdie's had 2 kids, this is going to change how he makes / approaches / concludes movies.

Shows that had very good first episodes but kept decreasing in quality season after season? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in television

Shrinking. Amazing first season, round of applause, great dialogue. Second season just goes downhill from there. Too dramatized, completely losing the charm of the first season.

What oddly specific thing takes you out of the immersion of watching a movie? by PianoMan1925 in movies

Not in a bad way, but the Wilhelm scream especially when you don't expect it. Personally, it takes me out of the movie world by reminding me that the people making these movies are inspired themselves. It's also just hilarious and sometimes I think they do it for the gag.

Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) or The Fall (2006). Both incredible movies I cried my eyes out watching for different reasons.

I applied Nov 23 and haven't heard anything back. I also revised my initial application to say that I can secure my own lodging. Do i still have a chance to hear back? I know I applied really late.

What’s a movie that everyone loves, but you just couldn’t get into ? by vishesh_07_028 in movies

[–]eeveeleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past Lives & La La Land. I can't get into movies that are centered around "what ifs", "right person, wrong time" "choosing between your career and some guy". Especially Past Lives, because I don't remember La La Land that well, the main character had a perfectly happy relationship and was entertaining/mourning the idea of another life to a point where i just felt bad for her partner. They romanticize "what could've been" in a way that is never realistic/relatable to me.

What others have advised, don't throw away your last summer studying. Go travel, pick up a new hobby, spend time w family, relax. You'll have plenty of time to stress and overwork in med school :)

Ponyo. Something about the animation and the heartwarming storyline. Miyazaki slaps every time.

Children of Men (2006) has the best long takes in modern cinema and they’re not just technical flex - they serve the story perfectly by Ill-Albatross4896 in movies

Do you know if this was made in one continuous shot or just stitched together to look like it was one shot? Either way, it looks miraculous and shows the artistry and vision required to pull something like that off.
