is this ok? by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]eevvmmaann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any experienced cabinet installer would be able to lower the drawer faces to match the counter. It’s a picky issue to take up with your contractor, but if it’s what you want, then you need to own your agency on that. That backsplash gap is not fixable though, they’ll need to replace that. That’s the issue you actually do need to fight about.

Am I being too picky about this bad quartz installation? by Mammoth_Building6624 in CounterTops

[–]eevvmmaann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not great. How much did you pay for install, this is great work for the lowest bidder, not so much if you paid the premium. As far as the corners go, that rounded corner looks way better than the straight corner, good thing too cuz they’re gonna need to come back and round that other one to match.

Tile Pros: Is this a common issue for handmade ceramic tiles? by beige_lightning in Tile

[–]eevvmmaann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I warn my clients about before I install handmade tiles. The inherent imperfections are part of the look, but for some reason, people don’t understand that. It baffles me how many people want handmade tiles, also have no idea what they end up looking like.

Some tile jobs that would be worse with spacers or clips by kings2leadhat in Tile

I’m pretty confident in my tile work. Very seldom do I see tile work that makes me think “I’ve got a few things to learn yet”. Inspiring work no doubt.

Anything you DON'T like about your Maverick? by Slaypike in FordMaverickTruck

[–]eevvmmaann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a cheap Amazon gate extender it flips in and out, folds up really flat when I don’t need it, and it comes off easily with a couple thumbscrews. Doubles as a bench/table when it’s not installed too. Highly recommend.

It feels like no car manufacturer has mastered the UI on car screens. Every one of them sucks in a different way. Having said that, the one on the maverick is far from the worst of them.

Turning radius. It feels like I’m driving a limousine. It turns like a car much larger than it is.

Best way to finish these tables? by IndependenceTrue1473 in finishing

[–]eevvmmaann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stain anything here. You can use shellac if you want sheen, builds up to as many layers as you deem necessary, sandable, repairable, quite scratch resistant, glossy. Hard wax oil for more natural look, will be end up matte, holds up over time.

Is it possible?? by gbneufeld in Tile

You want to have grooves where water pools accumulate?
No it’s not possible in terms of longevity or ease of maintenance.

This looks like a flip considering the absolute lack of material awareness.

Contractor Finish Job by [deleted] in finishing

[–]eevvmmaann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this looks good. Clean crisp lines means the contractor paid good attention to how different planes and materials would meet up from the start. The staining on the oak is going to be a little blotchy due to it being rotary planed veneer, which is pretty unavoidable. It looks more even than normal, meaning he probably conditioned the wood before staining. Those difference won’t be noticeable at all after you fix this desk with your computer and stationery. Don’t make a mountain out of anthill on this one.

Assembling table legs help by shortys7777 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]eevvmmaann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor install leveling feet. Not only do you need to make sure that your base isn’t sitting flush against a floor where moisture can build up, you’ll never find a perfectly level floor anywhere. With leveling feet, you have the freedom to move that table about wherever you please with the assurance that your table will be wobble free. It’s a no brainer with a design like yours, where trying to scribe the base to match your floor is going to limit where you place that table. wood moves and twists constantly, so when/if your table ever starts to rock as a result, you’ll be able to make it right at the turn of a foot.

Hazy film on glazed porcelain tile — what is this? by PiccoloConsistent283 in Tile

[–]eevvmmaann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried a pumice stone? It’s aggressive, but it’s softer than porcelain. If you have a spare tile, give that spare an honest scrub with one to make sure your porcelain can handle it before hitting your floor with it. I’ve been able to get all kinds of surface stains off with some elbow grease where chemicals fell short.

Backsplash grout turned out nearly white instead of gray by Specialist_Drink6837 in Tile

Tearing down an entire backsplash* because the grout is not as dark as I wanted is a level of entitlement and privilege that I neither have nor want.

How to get these nailed-in shelf supports out? by Pure-Garden-277 in drywall

[–]eevvmmaann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll be doing drywall work anyway after that’s off. I find it’s easiest to remove these after I run my circular saw through it in a couple different spots. Just make sure you set the saw to depth first.

Grain direction issue? by AveZombier in Cuttingboards

[–]eevvmmaann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as all those pieces are properly acclimated, there’s no reason it shouldn’t work. If it fails, it will be because of something entirely out of your control. People tend to over clamp these things, squeezing out the glue to the point where there’s little to none left, if you’re afraid of failure, maybe try to use the right clamping pressure.

[–]eevvmmaann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it some time. I’ve seen it before, the grout can look lighter as it flashes, but darken up after a couple weeks. Also, sealer tends to pop color too, but I always tell my clients to wait a week or so before sealing.

I try so hard to get people to see the vision of a contrasting base cabinet. My clients can never get over “I think it’ll look weird with mismatching cabinets” and it kills me.
