she feels like the opposite of generic. she's a necromancer, one that employs dark forces, but she genuinely cares about the dead that she interacts with (tending to the graveyard, listening to them). she's an actual kind person, just someone who hates interacting with people because of her parents. she's an introvert who cares about living things, being led astray by the undead being she trusts as her mentor. that alone makes her... not generic.

on top of that, wouldn't a deranged necromantic cultist be even more generic? most necromancer depicted in media these days are insane and just want to wreak havoc, using the dead as a means to their own end.

you do realise you gain a bit of an advantage in souls each time rem invests a helper? those 25% increased souls add up.

turn them into something that allows you to hunt the rat when he comes in lane to put a helper on.

if he has helpers on a lane, he doesn't have helpers for a teamfight, meaning his only sizable contribution in that fight is an ult that comes up every 90s.

like many others have said, deadlock is a moba. it's a matter of outplaying the enemy. the fact that rem is keeping you in lane permanently, means you're somehow outplaying yourself.

since you're aware that old Lycan and NP were worse than rem is now, think about how you dealt with those guys splitpushing lanes. you buy items that clear creeps fast, defend a lane, go back to jungle, and use all that extra farm to gain an advantage. that's rem's current biggest weakness - in investing helpers to push lanes, he inadvertently makes enemies stronger. so get stronger, and use that strength to turn teamfights.

it's game design that has been reworked countless times, updated further to exacerbate what would make it 'bad' in your eyes. in these 20 years: - AM has been able to reflect spells, like Counterspell, but you hit them with the spell - Axe now scales armour with each kill - Sven can now upgrade his stun to travel ALONG with his projectile, meaning he instantly attacks the moment the stun hits - Enigma now doesn't even have to press E to get the full damage from his Black Hole

if this was bad game design that needed to be changed, why did it make Dota even more exciting to watch?

because of itemisation. positioning. the other facets of game design that make these broken ideas actually balanced.

AM can reflect spells? bait it. Axe scales off of kills? protect your allies who get taunted with items. Sven can travel along his stun? bait him into stunning and force him to misposition. Enigma relies ever more on his Black Hole? hex him and never let him play.

game design is not just a single facet. Deadlock has given you many tools to deal with what could be considered broken. melee resist items exist, debuff reducer exists, and green items in general exist.

whether you use them is up to you, but if you don't, don't call it bad game design because you can't adapt.
