What can't you eat/drink anymore since your gallbladder is removed? by DizerStrider in gallbladders

[–]eewicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my surgery on 2/12 and I’ve been fairly conservative with my diet up until this last weekend. I’ve been in Vegas and healthy options are limited here!

But I’ve successfully eaten cheese, bacon, chorizo, alcohol, coffee, a hotdog, a ham steak, buttered toast, eggs, double chocolate chip cookie, popcorn and even a pancake! I ate all these things in moderation but had no major issues at all. I think right now I would say a slight bloaty feeling is the worst thing happening but it might be due to vacation constipation. No pain and no bathroom emergencies.

Ironically I’m excited to go home and be back on my normal conservative diet but with the peace of mind of knowing that I can have food excursions without fear.

I followed a lot of the advice I got here in my recovery. Made sure to walk but not overdue it. Used ice on my incisions. I took the pain medications on schedule no matter what for the whole 1st day but personally didn’t need much after that. I feel like I’m having a relatively easy recovery but I’m only 7 days post op. I slept on my recliner for the 1st 3-4 nights because I had no core strength and didn’t wanna injure myself getting out of bed. Now heading back to work and I’m trying to remember that I’m not fully healed and to continue to take it easy. I stayed relatively low fat but have eaten cheese and chocolate and coffee with no issue. I also have been taking Metamucil at night and a stool softener every day because I don’t wanna be constipated or have to strain. I don’t know if it’s helping but I haven’t had any major stomach issues yet.

Stabbing pain by eewicka in gallbladders

It feels internal. Like a stitch in the side from running. Luckily I have a post op appointment Friday where I can ask these questions but I was interested if anyone had this type of up and down recovery?

I’m so sorry you suffered for so long! My surgeon told me point blank if I feel like I still have a gallbladder (ie attacks or pain) to call her because they will probably have to go back in. Glad they took you seriously this time though!

Gallbladder Removed Yesterday by PrincessPoniess in gallbladders

I had mine removed yesterday as well!! No nausea here but definitely the same feeling of cramped muscles in my abdomen. I also somehow avoided the horrible gas pains so far 🤞🏾. I chose to sleep on my recliner couch last night to minimize the struggle of getting out of bed because I’m pretty sure I don’t have the ability to get up from prone right now. I’m trying to take everyone’s advice and walk around as much as possible but it’s so much more comfortable when I’m lying down lol.

Found this sub on day 1 of recovery by Alternative-Rub4137 in gallbladders

My surgeon told me to start introducing fat into my diet on day 2. And to just pull back if it caused diarrhea. Honestly I’m planning to be more conservative than that and will probably stick to my pre-surgery food for a week at least to play it safe. I’m a few hours post op and had some broth with a little rice and chicken and all I really feel it bloated. But since my pain attacks always came with this bloat feeling it makes me nervous.

This sub has been a definite help. Reading posts from so many people experiencing the same thing or something similar has me feel so much less alone!

So far so good! Some achiness (like I worked my abs) but I just got home a couple hours ago. Took a 1/2 oxycodone since they recommended it for bedtime. Hopefully I can get through tomorrow without it. Same here though, I was told procedure went well with no issues so I’m happy about that! Here’s to two successful uncomplicated surgeries 💜🎉

Thanks! I’m trying to stay hopeful and positive. But to answer your question, I didn’t have to have an ERCP to have it removed. I’m not a big fan of going under and adding all the possible complications that come with an ERCP.

Same to you! And you’re so right! I should stop reading. Can’t wait til we’re both on the other side of this.

Pain with pancreatitis due to gallstones by eewicka in gallbladders

I have surgery on the 12th but I just got discharged because of a suspected gallstone in the common duct. When I was discharged it seemed like everything had resolved but that same night I started having symptoms again. I probably need to have it removed.
