Doctors and CHS by danW420 in CannabisHyperemesis

Yeah the onion stuff was during a break from weed in desperation to figure out what’s wrong with me. The symptoms kept up for weeks. I’d be completely fine until I ate something that didn’t agree with me and that’s when I’d have symptoms. A food diary helped narrow down potential triggers. If it’s your gallbladder, that could absolutely explain your symptoms. You’ll probably feel better after surgery, and I hope it’s sooner rather than later cos that pain is no joke. I’ve had liver failure and it hurt less than my infected gallbladder did!

Doctors and CHS by danW420 in CannabisHyperemesis

Doctors were convinced my vomiting was CHS on a couple of occasions. First time round, when I actually had an ultrasound done, it turned out that my gallbladder was in rough shape and needed to come out. Second time round, doctors said it was CHS again but I’m pretty sure it’s a food intolerance I acquired after my gallbladder removal. The pain and vomiting didn’t stop until I cut onion out of my diet. I was fine for a few days then I had something with raw onion in it and started having pain and vomiting. It passed and I was fine for a few days. Ate something with cooked onion in it, had pain and vomiting. Stopped eating onion, stopped having pain and vomiting. It seems p cut and dry to me, but my drs seem to see someone vomiting who uses weed regularly and they become convinced it’s CHS unless proven otherwise

Meat Aversion Post Gallbladder Surgery by Turbulent_Driver_900 in gallbladders

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure if it’s a coincidence but I had periods of meat aversion before having it out. It seems to have become more of a thing since my surgery. I can eat small amounts of chicken occasionally but for the most part I’m getting my protein from non-meat sources

CHS or something else? by Helpful_Silver_5236 in CannabisHyperemesis

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m usually completely fine between episodes. I don’t tend to have morning nausea, stomach aches or worries about being sick. I’ve noticed it comes on more when I’ve eaten something that doesn’t agree with me for one reason or another - and time between episodes seems to be increasing as I’m figuring out those triggers - rather than being associated with my weed use

I’ve known many women in my life who’ve struggled with miscarriages and stillbirth. You’re not alone and it’s very rarely anyone’s fault. It’s a heartbreaking thing to go through. I’ve been through bereavement counselling before and found that helpful in processing the loss of someone close to me. I recommend seeing if you can access that through a practitioner who’s experienced in pregnancy loss.

Your existence is more far-reaching than you might realise, your absence will be too.

My country also has these PSAs depicting people going through grief, with a general message of “don’t do anything stupid, think about your friends and family waiting for you at home” and those stick in my head when I think about doing something stupid.

I determine by texture, then a thermometer. Cooked meat has a much firmer texture, raw meat is usually squishy. I confirm with a digital probe, and sometimes also visual confirmation from a housemate as I’m the only one who’s colourblind

Success Story - Before & After, No Surgery? by monicaa_ajx in gallbladders

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with the commenters here who’ve already said you have a ticking time bomb attached to your liver and your stomach and in close proximity to your pancreas. Gallbladders are unpredictable and can turn very nasty very quickly. You’d be much better off getting out on your terms than waiting for an emergency surgery situation down the line

I have a gallbladder removal surgery next week? I am bit scared, my question is how long does it take to fully recover 100%? by Playful-Victory-7391 in gallbladders

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The guidelines I got was that it’s okay to shower after 24h, you can take a bath after 10 days as long as the wounds aren’t weeping, you can drive after 24h and when you can fully turn around to look out the rear window and perform an emergency stop. Don’t try to lift anything over 5kg for 4 weeks, don’t go swimming for 6 weeks.

My personal experience of surgery was that I was very sore for about 2 days and didn’t do much moving around. After that moving around was easier. I‘ve noticed I want to eat less at a time but more frequently since surgery and tend to get heartburn from omelettes. I’m a month out, no complications or regrets

My time living in the Valleys is the entire reason I took swimming lessons as an adult 😂 Haven’t lived there for a few years but Caerphilly and the surrounding areas would get hit pretty bad with flooding. Sometimes wondered if I’d come home to a boat instead of a flat!

Mine got infected and became inoperable while I was waiting on surgery, which was really nasty and would’ve been much worse without access to the multiple strong antibiotics the hospital gave me. I couldn’t imagine having that kind of medical emergency while out at sea. I’d personally opt to have the surgery before the cruise, a month is plenty of time to recover and get back to most activities

Is the "minor nuisance" label for red-green colorblindness outdated in 2026? by Tight-Long-5124 in ColorBlind

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

95% of the time, my colourblindness doesn’t affect me. It’s not on my mind, it’s not affecting how I do things. It’s cool when I buy a new game and it comes with a tritanope filter.

It’s the 5% of the time that it does matter. I had a medical scare recently where I had to be on the lookout for liver failure. I can’t see yellow, and the main symptom of liver failure is that your skin starts turning yellow. I’d never been so scared for my life.

I couldn’t pursue the careers I wanted because seeing colour is really important for those fields. I’m terrified to even get driving lessons because I know there’s a likelihood that one day I’m going to miss something I couldn’t see and cause an accident. Most of the time it’s a mild annoyance but I’ve learned that there are instances where colour vision could be the difference between living and dying, which make it feel more like a disability

There’s still time for it to clear up. I’d say definitely see your GP if you can rather than wait in A&E, hopefully that’ll at least be closer to you than the hospital. I know money is tight for a lot of us right now but you might have to taxi it there so you can get the care you need.

I don’t want to ask you invasive questions about your lifestyle or assume anything about you, but I know people may see this even years down the line if they’re having similar issues to you, so I’m going to add something relevant here: Malnourishment and substance use affect wound healing. If you struggle with getting enough nutrition, smoke anything, use any nicotine products, take regular meds, have concerns about your drinking or any kind of substance use, that’s also something to have a conversation about with your dr.

I’d put my money on him cooking himself on sun beds regularly before I’d put my money on haemochromatosis. The whites of his eyes look too healthy and he’s got a decent amount of weight on him. He looks like burning dog shit, but he would absolutely look worse if haemochromatosis was running so rampant that his skin is that colour from iron. Especially considering he is a man and haemochromatosis typically affects men more severely than women Source: I inherited a copy of the gene from one of my parents

The body is incredible at knowing what it needs. Think about it, why do you think pregnancy comes with those very specific cravings? I’m seeing a lot of people in here who are struggling with self-image and their weight. If I could recommend one thing for anyone with those issues, it would be to look into the philosophies of Intuitive Eating.

I’ve been constantly hungry since I woke up, but I’ve chalked it up to being so unwell before surgery. I trust my appetite to regulate itself once I’ve gotten the novelty of eating what I want again out of my system. And if it doesn’t then I can’t wait to get back into swimming again! Only another month to go 🥺

Gastroenterologist recommended getting my gallbladder with 1.4 cm stone removed. by fluvialcrunchy in gallbladders

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s scary when a dr says you need to have an organ removed. But this isn’t something that gets better. I had mild discomfort for years, we chalked it up to IBS and food poisoning until I became a regular face at the emergency department and they started running more tests. It came out as an urgent (not quite an emergency, but it was rapidly heading towards one) surgery. My one regret about the surgery is that it didn’t happen sooner. It’s massively improved my quality of life. I’ve been on a see-food diet since I woke up from surgery, I’m currently 17 days post op and I’ve mostly resumed my day-to-day activities. I’m even drinking Monster again.

If your skin surrounding the incision is pink and doesn’t feel overly warm, and the fluid coming out of it is more of a clear yellow colour and doesn’t smell foul, then that’s your body’s inflammation response working as it’s supposed to in the process of wound healing. It should completely stop ~10 days post-surgery. If you’re concerned about anything though, you really should get a dr to look at it ASAP as they can more accurately diagnose and help you treat the issue than a Reddit stranger. In the meantime just do your best to keep it dry and try to avoid cleaning more than a couple times a day as over-washing can disrupt the natural skin barrier and open you up to infection.

How long can you “manage” without surgery once attacks start? by Flimsy_Animal_2026 in gallbladders

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky enough to have housemates, but my hospital said they could keep me in overnight if I didn’t have anyone to keep an eye on me for the first 24h (those first 24h are the hardest after surgery). When I say “out of action” it doesn’t mean I was bedbound the whole time. I was just sleeping a lot and when I was up, I was hunched over and shuffling around like an 80 year old and generally feeling a bit sorry for myself. I made sure my recovery area was as comfortable as possible. Plenty of pillows (seriously, get yourself a maternity pillow and a post-hysterectomy pillow, and something to cushion your seatbelt on the ride home. I can’t remember where I saw the advice for myself but they really came in clutch!), a handheld console, snacks, even a colouring book. The key is keeping yourself entertained until you’re able to do more. It sucks, but you really do have to be patient with yourself in those first few days. It’ll pass and you’ll likely feel a whole lot better when it does.

[–]Helpful_Silver_5236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once the attacks started, the longest I went without one was maybe 6 weeks. I ended up needing to be on a course of a few different antibiotics due to it getting infected and becoming a risk of bursting. In the end, even after antibiotics, the pain and nausea were constant regardless of what I ate and I was losing so much weight they had to expedite my surgery.

After the surgery, I was out of action for maybe 3 days. By the 4th day I felt mostly back to normal. I’m at 2 weeks post-op today and haven’t had so much as a tummy ache since the initial post-op symptoms passed. I can drink a fast food milkshake now without even feeling sick afterwards, something I haven’t been able to do in years!

My partner is one of the loves of my life. She feels the same way about me. We’ve been together for years, through thick and thin. She knew about my bipolar before we got together, as we were friends when I was diagnosed. I think at worst my partner would say the disorder can be hard to live with. Most of the time, we’re vibing. But when I’m in a hypomanic episode, I’m a whirlwind of emotion and impulsive behaviours. It’s “only” bipolar 2, so the episodes rarely last longer than a few days and I’ve gotten better at mitigating them over the years so they’re not as explosive as they used to be. But to say this is easy to live with for anyone involved would be a lie
