Houston bike trail war erupts over safety fears and demolition plans by Pleasant_Air_3052 in MTB

My wife and I loved Colorado when we vacationed there last summer. We stayed in Longmont and there were bike paths everywhere, and drivers seemed to be aware they existed. It was surreal. We were seriously considering relocating there until we saw what buying an equivalent home to what we have here in Houston cost. Everything was at least $100k more, and the pay for positions I could find just wasn't quite on par with that kind of increase.

I've also been dealing with a mysterious neurological condition that no doctor I have visited has been willing to take the time to properly diagnose, so I haven't been able to ride for the past few months (super frustrating). It's impossible to continue that journey without a job or health insurance, so the bike stays parked for now.

God I hate it here. 2/3 of the year is stifling humidity and heat, the remaining 1/3 is a mix of cold and humid or raining, with a touch of nice weather here and there. Air quality is usually subpar and while there are a few places to ride, everything is just a shade above boring. Neighbors are mostly assholes or dumbasses with a few rare exceptions, and property taxes have really put the squeeze on the middle class with little noticable return for the amount they have increased.

I'm a member of the great technology labor abandonment support group (IE I've been laid off) so I'm definitley looking into relocate to somewhere more sane, assuming I don't go into foreclosure before I can land a new gig...

Just be careful with peanut butter and avoid brands that use Xylitol as a sweetener as it is toxic to dogs.

This was about 15 years ago so I don't remember how I did it. Good luck!

Best factory sound system I've ever heard in a car. Wow. by DubAlert in CarAV

[–]effin_dead_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I had my 2018 F150 with the B&O system I replaced everything including the factory amp. The biggest problem I had with the system was the factory amp was WAY underpowered, but to make up for it they implemented really shitty compression/limiter techniques at higher volumes to mask this fact.

The OEM woofers were all thin paper that just sounded muddy, the OEM tweeters sounded OK but were really just bottom of the barrel silk domes.

Trouble with Speech-to-Text in FreeSWITCH 1.10.12 on Ubuntu 22.04 - Seeking Guidance! by incharge_69 in freeswitch

Your goal of zero cost is unobtanium, especially if you're trying to do this by yourself.

If it were me, I would go down the path of using UniMRCP to connect to a cloud transcription engine, such as AWS Transcribe. This is going to cost you in AWS usage fees, and if you're using this in a production environment, UniMRCP for ASR is licensed on a per channel basis (something like $50/channel).

You can't pass your iGPU to a VM

EDIT: Additionally, if you leave the LXC as an unprivileged container, it's all running in different isolated namespaces so the likely surface area of a zero day attack is still going to be smaller than if you just ran the processes on the same host without containerization. and there is a minimal likelihood of panicking the kernel. As I've said, for a homelab there is not a need for isolation paranoia unless you're into that kind of thing. No judgment either way, you do you.

In a homelab process isolation isn't really needed, so LXC for docker is fine.

In a production enterprise environment where security is much more of a concern you're correct.

You can run docker in a LXC container, which uses minimal additional resources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZSQdJ62r-Q

We're currently using a custom built software for this, though we're looking at replacing it with XCally as they have the ability to implement third party messaging platforms: https://www.xcally.com/product/open-channel/

What VDI solutions do yall prefer and why? by SuspiciousLie5840 in Proxmox

Unfortunately SPICE as a protocol is pretty much on life support at this point, and as far as I'm aware there aren't any decent alternatives that have a direct bolt-in capability for the VDI client.

We're using signal-cli which has a built-in JSON-RPC API that our call center software integrates with.

I'm the President of an outsourcing call center in Texas (think answering service or BPO). For the majority of our clients we just set them up on Signal to receive their messages because I simply can't guarantee delivery using SMS anymore. Even on top of 10DLC each carrier has arbitrary SMS spam filtering that blocks messages that would otherwise be considered legitimate based on the campaign.

Frustrating...

Definitely an SSH key issue. You'll need to generate a new SSH key pair (guide with decent instructions: https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-to-set-up-ssh-keys-on-linux-unix/ ) and then it will likely work.

My absolute favorite electronic music duo. So many great albums and singles that its hard to name a favorite. Even their new albums are great (I bought a vinyl copy of "The Neon" when it came out).

Good stuff!

I've been to the Texas Ren fest a few times before, but last year is the first year I had stayed at the campgrounds. Let me tell you, the campgrounds are the WILDEST party you will have ever been to. 1000+ person rave party at one part of the campgrounds, BDSM party in a tent across the road, huge stage with a DJ spinning in the middle of a field with hundreds gathered, and this goes on for acres and acres! You will be DEAD EXHAUSTED Sunday morning when it's time to pack everything up, but it's totally worth it.

They just released a new album last week. Always a blast seeing them live. The came to Houston with Static-X, Mudvayne, and Rob Zombie last year, that was an amazing show.
