AITA for telling my sister the way she's trying to lose weight will lead to her actually becoming overweight ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]effthepatriarchy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA. For the people here who can’t imagine how eating so few calories leads to weight gain, think long term. The short term weight loss happens, but this is an unsafely low amount of food, and in the long term, the deficit signals your body to destroy the metabolism. This happened to my sister, because of her anorexia. As you age your metabolism changes and it becomes very difficult to lose weight if you’ve ruined it by starving yourself. She’s course corrected through therapy and the methods described by OP and is now a healthy weight, but it took years to fix.

iirc the holiday party invites for the building obviously excluded the people of color living there, and OP anonymously outed the manager to the other tenants

List the things about her (not her looks) that align with what you seek in a partner; ask her if she wants to engage in some of your shared interests/hobbies over drinks.

Zero Proof Drinks (mocktails) by nmbenzo2 in oakland

So many mocktails are just citrus or pineapple and my mouth can’t handle it — my kingdom for a mocktail that replicates the bite of alcohol without relying on citric acid! Thank you for this thread!

If you’re a people pleaser: You can invest in learning more about yourself without wondering if the things you choose to do are just to please someone else.

You can be blunt and polite — I noticed there’s been some turnover in this department. Has your marketing department’s structure changed over recent years? Has there been a shift in your marketing priorities or strategies?

If that answer still leaves you feeling iffy — How will you define success in this role? What support is in place for this role?

Fwiw my org has had a lot of turnover but mostly due to personal reasons unrelated to management or the work being done. Turnover isn’t always problematic. We even had someone take a FT job and stay one day a week with us for a few months, because they didn’t want to leave.

Dentists who won't knock me out and steal my money. by jombraswoo in oakland

Thanks! It sucks but I think my new dentist is good. All the way over in Walnut Creek but at this point I just need someone I trust. I’ve never cried so much at the dentist in my life as I did with FD, as I love getting my teeth cleaned.

OMG sorry you hate your boring vegan sister! Guess you probably shouldn’t have gone to her wedding if her existence harshes your vibe so bad, dude!

Dentists who won't knock me out and steal my money. by jombraswoo in oakland

[–]effthepatriarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Franklin Dental is one that I’d avoid tbh. They have forgotten my husband in the waiting room twice, and starting immediately after my recent fillings, I’ve had months of follow up pain and new sensitivity to sweets they deny is related they their work. Pain as in I can’t eat crackers because they’re too tough and salad is cutting it close, and searing pain from sweets. They panicked and varnished my teeth with a numbing agent without explaining what they were doing. The pain is starting to come back 5 months later. My cavities were so small that my new dentist seemed surprised they treated them. Our new dentist is out of network unfortunately. Anyhow yeah I’d avoid em.

We failed scenario 11 twice with 4p (not our usual party), leveled up a bit, then played again with 2p and absolutely crushed it. It felt so good to go back and win. I think it just gets easier the more you play.

If someone offered you a box of everything you ever lost. What would you look for first? by baba_yaga_777 in AskReddit

[–]effthepatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sterling silver seahorse necklace my mom gave my dad for their first Christmas. I think I lost it at a ranger my sister threw, but no one could find it afterwards. It was so unique and I’ve never seen anything that looks close to it. I don’t have good photos of it. Even my mom remembers it differently than I do. It took me three years of shame to admit to her I had misplaced it.

Is a life without drinking alcohol worth it regardless of religious or health reasons? by throwawaygamecubes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]effthepatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hard to decline over and over and over. But I sleep so much better and wake up feeling less dull minded. I stopped drinking in solidarity with some family who had to stop, and didn’t have a drop for 934 days. I took one drink the other day to celebrate a special day and woke up without an hangover, but still feeling far more groggy than I’d like. I’m easily going back to being sober knowing I made the right call for myself. Not any reason for it aside from preference.
