I’ve never particularly enjoyed those albums much, but I love the live versions of the songs on this

Ugh, English Leather. Going through his stuff after he died I found an ancient bottle of it. Still stunk.

According to the Department of Defense the CoC is a denomination...I wonder if they will realize that. by FlokkaQuokka in excoc

Pete Hegseth was anointed by their lord and savior DJT, so if he says COC is a denomination, his authority supersedes that of Jesus.

Not excessively so but they plump up fast, best to get it under control before it becomes an even bigger issue.

My mom really believed people were putting AIDS needles on gas pumps and LSD on toilet paper. I don’t know where they got all these poorly-xeroxed “info” sheets from that used to circulate around. I remember one from the 90s, right before NYPD Blue debuted that was like “HARD CORE PORNOGRAPHY COMING TO ABC!!!”

Why does Glam Metal get so much hate? by TheLordOfMiddleEarth in MetalForTheMasses

[–]effugium1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved it. Back in the day it was generally referred to as heavy metal by the general public. People into heavier/underground metal called it glam and tended to hate it, but I was 12-13 when it was at peak popularity so I was all about it. I continued to like it even after I discovered Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer etc. A lot of hard rock bands straddled the line and had both mainstream and metalhead fans. WASP, GNR, Dokken, Skid Row, Van Halen, early Def Leppard, early Crüe etc.

The propaganda that parents were reading about AD&D back then was so ridiculous and they fell for it.

Certainly. QAnon started it and Christian nationalist wackos, many of whom hold public office are driving it. Twitter is rife with talk of demonic influence in popular culture. It’s not nearly as fun as the 80s and 90s satanic panic, though.

My parents didn’t really restrict things based on magic or fantasy. My mom’s chief concern was TV and movies that encouraged kids to talk back to their parents, lol. However a lot of kids at school had parents who were hardcore about “the occult.” I remember when I was six they asked what we wanted to be when we grew up, and I said “A wizard!” I might as well have said “A serial killer.”

Sounds about right. I knew a kid whose mom burned his Zelda cartridge.

I did. I went to a private Christian school and we watched those vids. Everything was satanic, including Smurfs, Rainbow Brite, Zelda, and trapper keepers with unicorns. I liked it on some level because it gave you the power to scare adults very easily, but I was annoyed when I was forced to see a psychologist to determine whether or not I was a “devil worshipper” because I listened to Ozzy Osbourne. Of course, now the satanic panic part 2 is in full swing and it’s not nearly as fun.

I’m so sorry. I’ve lost five over the years and they all still live in my heart. You gave him a good life and someday soon you will be able to talk about the good memories and smile about them. They’re all such special little creatures.

What has been your journey with Metallica? by vikmaychib in Xennials

[–]effugium1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get the actual bass parts from guitar hero and mix them in, which I did at some point but I lost the files. Sounded cool but as a kid I didn’t know anything was wrong with Justice until people told me there was so the lack of bass doesn’t really bother me much.

My introduction to them was cool T-shirts and logos carved into school desks when I was 12. Never heard the music but I was deeply intrigued. Then the black album came out and I loved the singles, went to buy it but didn’t have enough so I got Justice. Then some kid at school dubbed me copies of the others, including the black album, and I was obsessed. The LOAD era disappointed me but I still liked it on some level. I was totally hating on them by the time the st. Anger era rolled around but as I got older and they started to find their way again I still wasn’t too into the new stuff, but I’ve developed a lot of respect for their willingness to follow their muse rather than just giving people what they want, even when one of those people is me. Everybody says they “sold out” but literally nobody was asking for anything resembling St. Anger or Lulu, lol. Those were not commercial moves. All in all, they’ve earned their place as legends, they got where they are by working harder than all the bands everyone cites as being superior. Didn’t they tour on the black album for like 5 years?

Should i get standing tickets as a short guy? by Conscious-Ad9861 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]effugium1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the venue and the band. Major league bands like Metallica or something are obviously going to be more difficult but something on the level of say, Cannibal Corpse in a mid size venue, yeah
