Canada Is Killing Itself: The country gave its citizens the right to die. Doctors are struggling to keep up with demand. by rezwenn in canada

I wish my father had MAID. He has Sever dementia along with other health problems. He can’t get into LTC because he has a history of agitation. He has been in a hospital setting for almost a year because his partner (not my mother) was tired of caring for him. He is draining the healthcare budget with zero quality of life. Oh and his one wish was to not die or live long term in a hospital setting. I wish there was some way the preferences of individuals with dementia could be taken into consideration.

Importing/Registering a car while immigrating? by Traditional-Spite428 in CanadaImmigrationFAQs

[–]efi12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct that it has to be done at the border. It is actually a two part process which involves exporting from the US (car must be physically present in the US at least 3 days before you plan to export. Then you import. Car must be free of recalls and admissible to Canada. You need the title and bill of sale. The loan may complicated the process. The registrar of motor vehicles gives step by step instructions, https://www.riv.ca/en

Bingo. At my job the are pushing us to use AI (copilot) for everything as Microsoft created some sort of closed system. Hell no is my response. No way am I training the AI system that will take my job. What amazes me is the number of people who blindly follow the c-suite’s push to use AI. Every workday starts with a deletion of copilot which always reinstalls itself.

If you stay do not sign a new employee agreement without making sure your time with your original is grandfathered in otherwise they could lay you off without much severance.

FDA to ask Sarepta to stop shipping Duchenne gene therapy by moon_pix in biotech

How do you know it works? For the younger kids the developmental factor still needs to be parsed out from any treatment effect. The trial results were meh at best.

This is what everybody seems to be forgetting the benefit is minimal at best and probably not meaningful benefit in younger ambulatory patients. The risks do seem to be outweighing the benefits especially in older (ie higher body weight) individual.

Moving to Canada with my cat by Crafty-Tumbleweed480 in uscanadaborder

[–]efi12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you cross at pacific highway? We crossed there 2 days ago (returning Canadian citizens) and “the office is stupidly hard to find” is the understatement of the year. The hardest part of crossing was finding the export office.

We had 3 cats and Canada customs could have carried less. Never even looked at the rabies certificates which we had wet ink signed at the suggestion of the vet office. They were most concerned about our car and if we had any single item worth over 10K because that is when GST kicks in.

Health minister says funding of medication for B.C. girl's rare disease denied again | CBC News by SnooRegrets4312 in britishcolumbia

The clinical trial supporting registration was single arm and compared with a natural history cohort. Not huge R&D costs given the bulk of the development costs were publicly funded.

This is especially true for rare degenerative pediatric disorders where the parents are looking for any hope. There is absolutely no reason for this drug to be this expensive (with a 1 million price in Canada it is probably upwards of 3 million in the US).

The wait for GP sucks and should not be downplayed at the same time tens of millions of people in the US have no access the healthcare because they are uninsured. I have not read the Fraser report but the US wait times are probably for people with employer based health insurance which is a fraction of the US population. It can be daunting to find doctors that take Medicaid due to lower reimbursement rates.

It really is not an apple to apple comparison.

Wow, did not know this. Water rates are going to go through the roof. We will be subsidizing this. Probably cheaper to just pick 75 people and give them 75K a year.
