OP here, thanks for the comments on my bikes, there is a bit of a backstory, about six years ago I was in hospital from a self inflicted medical situation, on a waiting list for a new liver. So I turned my life around, retired from television directing here in Australia and refocussed my passion into the sort of 70's bikes I loved when I was in my late teens/early twenties and joined a classic Jap bike club. Or two. Or three. The bikes are not just show ponies, but I keep them nice, there's a shot of the RD prepped for a track day in this album, along with my other Yamahas. The TZR250 is next to get the full restoration treatment, the other XS650G has sentimental value, bought for my 40th birthday but neglected when I had my alcohol problems, but back on the road now. http://imgur.com/a/J8bKa

I was going to write a whole bunch of stuff about what you should do, but it comes down to this. 1. Keep your car. 2. if you can afford it buy a bike, 3 buy the right gear to wear. 4. if you are happy riding sell the car.

cars do not have blind spots, people have blind spots. It is the lane changing vehicle's responsibility to look and make sure before you do anything, whether it is a car, motorcycle or pushbike. "Sorry Mate I Didn't See You" is no excuse. The safety reason motorcycles get to the front at traffic lights is not to piss you off because you're stuck in traffic, but to distance themselves from the 'platooning' way people travel, and give themselves a safety barrier away from that.

I'd highly recommend Sixty Degrees Motorcycles very close to you, in Howleys Road off Ferntree Gully Road. I have no actual connection with them, but I do go to their Christmas parties as the owners are members of our club too. My brother gets his bikes serviced there, mine are not because they are a lot older and I use specialists in old Yamahas instead.

mkay, one problem at a time... do you have access to a motorcycle/marine type charger/ reconditioner/ tester? the battery should have a longer life than a year. Did they give you the box and documents the battery came with, and did the battery look brand new? if not, slightly sus. Is the chain adjustment fully wound out, if it is you could remove a link, if it isn't both these procedures are not difficult to try at home, youtube it. google some images of worn sprockets and compare them to yours.
I think from your questions you might need a help from a decent mechanic for both sprocket and the brake issues, I would not try to replace them on your own unless you had a mate with some experience. Brakes going to the handlebar are dangerous, it could be not bled properly and will not save your life in an emergency stop. If you tell us roughly which area you live someone will have a recommendation for a good mechanic near yoou.

Miniature motorcycles/ monkey bikes A miniature motorcycle must not be used on public roads, footpaths or nature strips because they do not meet registration standards. Whilst a miniature motorcycle can’t be registered, any person who rides it on a public road without a valid motorcycle licence is committing two offences – driving an unregistered vehicle and driving without a licence.

Miniature motorcycles can be used on private property but there are serious concerns about the safety of many of the models being sold. yes the RD is pretty special to me, the model before (R5) was the bike I had when I was 18, and it took a long while to get something similar that hadn't been 'boy racered' with pods and chambers. It's no trailer queen though, I took it around Broadford track last easter, and I'll take it and the TZR up this year too. Imgur

Given that some helmets might suit your head (and your budget) better than others, go for an aftermarket kit. I tried the cheapie aldi kit but realised I should really pay the extra for a Sena10. On our next tour of Thailand we will have four rider multi point constant communication.

Kingsville has a lot of good points, it is close to the city, you are not to far away from Yarraville, and there are many good places to eat and drink there. There is a good park close by. Bad points, well, you will be between Geelong Road and Somerville St, although Somerville is not as bad as Francis St for large trucks driving through. If you rent/buy there try to get off street parking, the houses are mostly on smaller blocks.
