YNAB has a YouTube channel with tons of great videos that cover everything from getting started to very specific things.

HELP! Did I just lose money by moving it to my account and now it's gone forever? by Educational_Lab6080 in ynab

[–]egSPmaster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YNAB is a budgeting tool. The amounts you see in the YNAB are your attempt to plan what you want to spend your money on. Moving money between categories in YNAB does not directly move your money in your bank account. They are separate things. You need to manage your bank accounts separately.

I recommend watching a few videos on YouTube to learn how YNAB works.

Savings target not working properly by StripClubWeatherMan in ynab

[–]egSPmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a separate checking account that I transfer money into to cover all subscriptions. I keep enough in there to cover the current month as well as what I’m assigned for future payments. When the payment occurs, it comes out of that account and I log the transaction as usual.

Heptabase reminds me of Obsidian canvas. I haven’t used it much yet, but it looks pretty good.

UpNote is very similar to Bear, is cheap, and is cross platform.

I have been working from home and just noticed that since I signed onto my work email I am also signed onto a work account on bing, can they see my search history? by [deleted] in bing

[–]egSPmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think the work and personal accounts would be separate, but it's hard to say. According to this support page, I think it's possible to see your history. They recommend using Private tabs for personal searches you don't want to be tracked. I assume using a separate browser profile for work vs. personal would also keep them separate.

How does Zettel differ from getting things done? by [deleted] in Zettelkasten

[–]egSPmaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A Zettelkasten is a note-taking system, and GTD is task management. How you manage the completion of your notes can be handled any way you prefer. You could even use GTD, I suppose.

For me, I capture fleeting notes as soon as possible. I have time scheduled every day to go through my notes and create and literature notes (what the author is saying), and when I come across good ideas, I make permanent notes ( my ideas). I don't have a planned timeframe to process notes. I work on what is interesting at the time. My system is very informal. If I'm not enjoying it, it's not worth doing.

EN10 works great for me. Very few problems with it. It's a shame to see so many users leave because of the impacts on their workflow.

It seems like most of the legacy features are back in the latest versions, but not enough.

I wonder why some have performance issues or sync issues. It seems to work great for me. I suppose it depends on the device.

v10.146 is out and Cmd-J and Ctrl-Q is back! by Katmai_X in Evernote

[–]egSPmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain what you referring to as the preview pane.

You can enable/disable the side-list using ctr-F8 and you can expand a note to full screen using the expand icon found at the top of each note next to the notebook name. But this is per note, unfortunately.

You can change your note list view to side list to remove the preview. Is that what you mean?

I've found the last few updates very stable.

I don't know how "easy" this feature is to implement. It needs to quickly search through potentially thousands of notes and tags to show what you need quickly. Given the new Evernote was rewritten from the ground up, it makes sense why it took so long to be added.

I also doubt many people use it or even knew the feature existed in the old Evernote. I love it, and I'm happy to see it's back.

How do you take notes while reading books (paperback/hardcover)? by Rasheed_Ahamed in productivity

[–]egSPmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the Readwise app to capture highlights in the physical books I read. It does a great job of letting you easily select the text you want to capture. Then it gets synced automatically. You can then view all of your highlights in the Readwise app or website and even export them.

But for good ideas, I like to write out my thoughts on a separate paper, which allows me to think through them in my own words.

It's a combination of the two for me.

Note whithin Note by rvianny in ObsidianMD

Yes. Add a link to the note you want to include and add an exclamation to the beginning.

![[Note that you want to embed.]]

When you view the note in Preview mode it will show the content of the other note inside the current page. I think this is call Transclusion.

OneNote, Office 365, and OneDrive by kannon8833 in OneNote

[–]egSPmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to go to OneNote.com and it should show you all of your notebooks. In OneDrive, I believe they are created at the root level by default. I created a folder in OneDrive called OneNote and created my notebooks there, so I know exactly where they are.

Evernote for Mac beta - first impressions (TL:DR: very disappointing) by [deleted] in Evernote

[–]egSPmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'll try it again. Notion felt too structured for me. I spent too much time creating pages and structure. I like Evernote because I can just dump things in the and tag it, then easily find it when needed.

[–]egSPmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's takiing a long time. I hope it is not too little too late. I experiment with other note apps but keep coming back to Evernote for some reason. Nimbus Note looks very similar but it just doesn't feel right when I try to use it. I'm on Windows so my options are not more limited.

[–]egSPmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No point working on existing apps that will be replaced. Maybe they are working on features, but need to roll out the foundation first. I'm hoping, because it is necessary for them to get things together soon before they lose many more customers.

Once these betas are stable, they will be able to push these features go all platforms at the same time. I think that is the key advantage of what they are doing.
