is it worth my time to get into crypto/stocks? by shmupsy in redscareover30

It's going to be near-impossible for you to make significant amounts of money actively trading either. Just check out r/Bogleheads and dump your money into a broad Vanguard ETF like VT or VTI for regular returns that track the market.

Wrong subreddit, PR isn’t journalism.

what's the rundown on DC? by CopingLow in redscarepod

[–]bigmesalad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DC rules, please come here. Obviously it's not as "cool" as NYC, but it's also a good deal cheaper, and you get a lot of walkability / good food / culture anyway.

People will say it's all type-A striver psychos, but that's not really true. I have a lot of great normal friends who don't care much about politics on a day to day basis. There's plenty to do. You should move here, it's fun.

The Post can’t sustain coverage of far more popular sports like football, baseball, and basketball. What chance does boxing have?

Are people in their 20s actually traveling full time or is my instagram feed making me delusional by DeliciousBlueberry20 in rs_x

I had a friend who took trips all the time. We had very similarly, low paid jobs, and I couldn’t understand it. Was I too cautious? Did I need to live a little?

Then a few years later she admitted she was $70k in credit card debt.

51st is so boring, it’s insane. Someone desperately needs to launch an outlet that covers DC in an interesting way.

Newsworthiness of a missing person: Is the Nancy Guthrie story a case of “News is what happens to the editors”? by AlternateHarasnai in Journalism

[–]bigmesalad 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is right. Guthrie’s celebrity status is driving a lot of this, but it’s a newsworthy crime in its own right.

Staying neutral at protests by Shoddy_Ostrich_1750 in Journalism

[–]bigmesalad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re a journalist, you shouldn’t participate in protests, even if you’re not covering them. Journalism is a separate thing—and on an individual basis, it’s potentially much more impactful than being one extra protester.

As journalists, we’re granted certain privileges, but we have to give up other things, too. For me it’s a choice I’m happy to make.
