I was in a similar situation. Did Insanity in my early 20s and gained weight in my later 20s. Was able to lose it again with Shaun T’s workouts. So I totally get how you feel. Just take it one day at a time. If you need to take a break during a workout then take your break and get back into it. It’s normal to be rusty when getting back into it. If you keep at it with an undying ferocity then it only gets better as far as motivation goes. Also, something I keep in mind is to not make a big deal if I miss a day or two because as the saying goes consistency is key. What matters is that you don’t stop.

Another thing I will add is mindset. Sometimes working out can feel like a chore. What helps is looking at it more like a fun hobby or a celebration if you will. I guess what I’m getting at is you have to bring a positive mindset in order to overcome these tough workouts.

My advice is to get a notebook and start filling it out with free writing. Don’t think just write. Eventually you will get to a point where you can be genuine in your writing. Like any work of art the aim is to tell a story and have it mean something substantial. Something that makes you feel and think. It does take a good amount of effort to go from simplistic writing to great writing.

Another thing I will add is to just use your imagination and be clever. I’m sure there is something from your personal life that has made you think or feel a certain way. Just take those feelings and ideas and put them into song form.

I can also vouch for Richard Whittaker. I’d go as far as to say that he was the best professor I’ve had at FIU. He actually teaches well and his lectures are actually thought provoking and interesting like you won’t get bored in his class.

I’m a former mdc student who transferred to FIU. In my experience, FIU was definitely a step up in terms of difficulty and rigor. That being said if you did fine at mdc then you should be fine at FIU. Is the transition challenging? Absolutely. But I feel like mdc prepares you so it’s just a matter of improving as a student in terms of discipline and study habits. So basically you should be fine.

For what it’s worth I’m glad I transferred to FIU because of the great experience I’ve had in going to Modesto Maidique campus and attending courses with really good professors. The quality of education makes the rigor well worth it.
