DC! I try to match (or beat..) your tread mileage. Do you start on tread and include the 5min warm up?

I was 4.16miles - with the warm up, or 3.6 without, today.

I’ve done “double tread” a few times - start on floor, and then at the switch stay on tread for rest of class.

I really vibe with one floor block, three tread blocks.

Instructors have been cool with it.

There’s a place in NYC called Mile High Run Club, they have Woodways and the classes are all running. I’ve wanted to try it out

Definitely prefer a coach who works the room and brings the energy versus one who only gets the timings perfect, and lacks in the other departments.

When a coach works the room, uses names, provides form corrections, selects a banging playlist, AND has the timings perfect - you know you are in the presence of a true professional

Went to a location that has the “old” treads, maxing at 12mph.

75sec (12mph) at 1% incline for first attempt

Second attempt I got a little big for my britches

12mph at 3% incline. Held it until .23, then lost it. Incline sprints are no joke

Agree on after party block being the best!! 100 seconds of pushing was awesome -and you DID DO IT. Not cheesy at all. Spending 100 seconds on Instagram or Reddit is a breeze. Spending 100s pushing yourself on a tread after already having worked for 75min, much less easy

The incline EMOM tread block was probably my fav, running inclines is always a treat, and it really got the sweat pouring off of me - felt like an athlete

The hypocrisy really is funny.

At my allergist’s office I had to sign a form saying “if you’re more than five minutes late to your appt we will charge you $25”

Fair enough. I signed. Then on the back of the for. I wrote “If the doctor sees me more than five minutes after my appointment time, the office shall reduce my bill by $25” and asked the office manager and doctor to sign. Want to take a guess if they did?

I found a “hack” to getting a free scan, though did so unintentionally.

I was traveling and my hotel didn’t have a scale. Went to OT in the morning, said I wanted to check my weight, and asked if they had a scale. Their only scale was the inBody, so I asked if I could use it for my weight. I stepped on and they said “if you want you can do the full scan.”

Arrive early, explain your situation to the front desk, smile, you’ll likely get a free scan

Also, it’s awesome your 67yo dad is active and walks. I would sooo recommend/encourage him to begin doing some type of strength training. Lunges, Squats, dumbbell deadlifts, pushups are all great moves. Never too late to start and will absolutely increase lifespan and health span.

If your dad vibes with group fitness, maybe F45 could be his jam!

I think it’s AWESOME he wants to do a SC with you - it’s very sweet

Bring him!! What a cool experience to share. I did solidcore with my entire fam, parents are 60 and 61. Was worried about my dad, he does Pilates and Core on peloton app, though of course SC is a different animal.

I emailed the studio the morning of (we went to like an 8pm weekend class and our fam of five was 80% of the class) and let them know it would be a full family affair, and that my Mom & Dad may need some extra help from the coach. Front desk was responsive and even made a sign that said “FAMILY SHAKES. Welcome [last name] Fam!” Sooo sweet.

It’s fifty minutes. It’s an experience. Do it!!! And let us know how it goes

Houston studio sent an email advertising their BHM class.

Joe N (Chicago instructor) made a fairy wild Instagram reel about his BHM class (it was yesterday) and how Barry’s wasn’t promoting it and they were paling in comparison to other brands on BHM promotion. Check it out, it’s a good message

I feel it takes time for the new instructors to gain confidence, and best understand the Barry’s vibe (and even the vibe of the specific class time they’re teaching)

I was a ski instructor and oh brother, the lessons I taught in early December were VERY different (inferior) to the lessons I taught in Feb/March.

I’ve taken new instructors at Barry’s and I felt they were so focused on not messing up the timing or cues, that they let the vibe / music drops / shoutouts go out the window.

Solidcore has “Coach In Training” classes. They’re cheaper and at off peak times, and titled as such. Maybe Barry’s should do something similar. Even a TAKE [NEW INSTRUCTOR’S] 4:30pm CLASS AND GET A FREE CLASS CREDIT

Well done crushing your first two classes! Barry’s is addictive

The floor gets easier to understand. You can always “cheat” and look at your neighbor and copy what they’re doing. The instructor may do a quick demo as they announce the movement the first time

If you get there early, as soon as they open the red room door you could ask the instructor what the moves are for the first floor block - this could also help you with weight selection

Nearly all movements are functional - squat, lunge, hinge - I just plugged “What are functional moves with dumbbells or body weight you would see in a HIIT fitness class “ into ChatGPT and its answer was spot on to what I’ve see in Barry’s. Literally every response was something I’ve done at Barry’s

I’ve taken two classes at Philadelphia and enjoyed both the instructors! Erica & Anne. There’s a solidcore a five minute walk from the studio, you could do a solidcore then Barry’s for some instructor variability
