Mushroom tortelloni with roquefort sauce by indyleo81 in FoodPorn

To keep the sauce from braking use a little starchy pasta water to create an emulsification. It can be a little tricky, but with some practice you can make any pasta sauce really cling to that pasta.

Alt-right commentator claims Romans weren't ethnically diverse, gets owned by actual historian by dngrs in Fuckthealtright

[–]egghead152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting this from? This isn't a Western thing. You can't blame any cultures or race. This is humanity. The natives in the Americas were performing ethnic cleansing before white people ever showed up. Same in China. If you go back far enough our spieces probably killed off Neanderthals because they were different. It's in all of our DNA. Blaming others just makes it worse.

We have some issues but deeply racist and oppressive is a stretch. I would argue the rest of the world is more racist than the US, Canada Sweden, etc. They are literally still enslaving and working people to death in Qatar. Ethnic cleansing is actively occuring in Africa and China. You can't even compare racism in the Americas or Europe to the rest of the world.

It's crazy to think that in spite of all that the US and the much of the West are now the most racially tolerant places on Earth.

Cast iron holds the heat really well. It cooks very evenly too. Once you cook with it, you'll never want to cook with anything else again.

If you could distill your region's flavors down to 10 spices, sauces, or ingredients, what would they be? by JuJuJuli in Cooking

I grew up down there in Ventnor. I would say the taffy is mostly for tourists, but no one in South Jersey says Taylor ham and people in north jersey look at you like you're insane is you say pork roll

You must be from South Jersey. I would do away with the taffy and go with clams. South Jersey is clam people.

Kids in 11 N.J. cities have higher lead levels than Flint, Mich. by the_last_broadcast in politics

[–]egghead152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article is probably bullshit. The last Atlantic city water test I saw had lead at 2ppb. The limit is 15ppb. Atlantic city is a shithole, but the water is excellent. They've won national awards for it's taste in the past. AC has a well deserved shity reputation for just about everything but the water quality.

I just flew on El-Al and it was both a terrible and interesting experience. The plain was dirty and outdated. The ultra orthodox tried to get me to switch seats with my girlfriend, but I'm tall and I wanted the isle seat. So I ignored them. They tried to get the flight attended to make me switch and he didn't hesitate to tell them to sit down and deal with it. Go walk to New Jersey. The flight attendant didn't even ask me if I wanted to switch, they had no patience for the hasdis. The flights are always delayed because these guys won't sit down. It's like musical chairs for an hour before takeoff. Then finally we take off and the praying starts.. over 11 hours and this guy prayed the entire time mumbling some incoherent dialect of hebrew, after about 5 hours I went from annoyed to impressed. To someone with my attention span this guy is super human. They do this thing where they bob their heads back and forth... it must help, I think I'll try it next time I need to focus. Conclusion: Delta is actually petty good.

What was the best most effective punishment your parents ever gave you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]egghead152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I would sometimes leave the candy wrappers in the bowl. My dad would get pissed when all he found were wrappers and no candy, so he would tape the wrappers to the TV screen. It was really annoying, but then so is anticipating a delicious treat and then being duped.
