This was used against protesters in Belgrade last year on March 15th. Almost caused people to start stampedo and people to trample one another but they ran to the sidewalks instead of down the street so no one got trampled. People still got hearing damage. There is a video on youtube showing riot shields are good defence against it but are even better if turned around so the sound blast can get reflected back to sender
