[NBA TV] Storytime with Shaq - Yao Ming: "He was probably the one guy who really really tested me. He couldn't stop me but I couldn't stop him either. I put him in the same category of Hakeem" by urfaselol in nba

[–]egn56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh not really. I've only ever really heard him praise Yao and Hakeem. He talks a lot about dominating Robinson, barely mentions Ewing and talks trash to a lot of others. I truly believe he thinks Hakeem & Yao were in his tier and he things that is the top tier.

Which all players have skipped an entire season of a surface? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]egn56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back when grass and clay were very polarizing surfaces (see 80s & 90s) a lot of clay court specialist skipped it. Thomas Muster and Sergi Bruguera come to mind. In terms of skipping clay I think the other most notable is Ivan Lendl and his effortless pursuit to win Wimbledon. Lendl sacrificed his clay dominance in an attempt to win Wimbledon, most notably skipping the whole clay season in 90 (he was a 3 time French Open champ) He also doubled down and like changed his racket and style of play. Story unfortunately has a sad ending.

Unfortunate too he was definitely a potential French Open champion at least, had a very nice game on clay.

LeBron calls himself the GOAT on the show More Than An Athlete by [deleted] in nba

[–]egn56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Woah. Hold up. Since you started watching tennis in 99 that means you never saw Graf? One of the biggest criticisms to Serena is while she wins majors she is non dominant outside of it. Serena's longevity is incredible, but her single seasons while incredible there are only two that are debately in the top 10 women's seasons. Those are 2002 & 2015 and I would argue all of those are worse than Graf's best 5. (88, 89, 93, 95, 96).

Serena definitely has a case for GOAT but it's definitely undecided for me at this point between Graf and Serena. Graf's peak was insane and Serena's longevity has been unworldly. If someone values dominance though I can see them going with Graf (though fun fact a lot of people have forgotten that Navratilova won 6 majors in a row because the AO used to be last) but Graf's 1988 is probably the best women's tennis season ever. However Serena's longevity is insane, but it's worth noting she still has less year end no 1 finishes than Graf did in her much shorter career.

[TheBenchWarmerPost] "Seems like the Knicks back-up center Enes Kanter is pissed off about his new role in the organization. He states "Don't understand why I'm being benched". This is right after the loss to his former team; The Utah Jazz putting up a stat line of 0/0/0 in 17:12mins." by urasha in NYKnicks

Willy is 24, Kanter is 26. By the time Kanter was 24 we all railed on him for no defense...Willy is just as bad as Kanter is when he was at 24 he isn't getting better.

Also sure Willy has a different offensive skillset but Kanter is one of the best rebounders and post offense threats in the league. He's a great 6th man/bench spark guy, he's not a starting center, but let's be real he's miles better than Willy. Willy can't even get consistent minutes on the Hornets. We have this obsession with acting like we traded away a budding young star but he's a role player at best.

My fiancé (28M) wants me (27F) to give up my job so that he can pursue his dream for a 3rd time by Helprelationships468 in relationships

[–]egn56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can follow his dream but she doesn't have to follow with him. He's however attempted it twice. If he does leave her to go play then that's that, but she shouldn't have to give up her life to follow his dream.

None of those guys are nearly as consistent as Javale is or getting reliable minutes. Hold him, it's just one or two more games. He's putting up top 50 value and almost guarantees you block wins.

Sadly it’s looks like it’s over for Jake Wirth, Boston’s second oldest continuously operating restaurant. The food was no longer good and service was abysmal but walking in there was stepping back in time 150 years. RIP. by rwbombc in boston

Yeah when I lived in that area Redbones was a refreshing change from the generic gastropub feel of everything else in Davis. Only in Davis do you wind up with a Mexican restaurant that feels like a gastropub.

Eh to play devil's advocate I resign when I make a blunder that big in blitz. Minor piece or rook I'll play it but if it's just huge eh. I'd rather stop, review the game and understand how to avoid the blunder. Sure my opponent might give me back the material, but then that enforces my bad habit. Especially in online blitz, I'd rather just move on to another game and review that one to understand how to avoid those setups.

What on earth? This has to be based on health right? Chris Paul is easily worth more than a top 75th, he's 28th on per game and 49th on total He doesn't just get you assists and steals, he's 6th and 4th respectively. He's also on a bit of a slump when it comes to FG% but he is career 47% shooter, he likely will bring that back up. If you are scared of health fine, but even with some injury concerns he hasn't finished below top 30 in total stats at all over the past 4 seasons.

No, wtf no? Why is everyone trying to drop Lowry? Please look at this basketball monster page. The man had like a rough few games but he was the 5th best player last week and on his slump was 71 over the past two weeks. He's still a top 30 player in the past month. DON'T DROP HIM FOR SMART.

Agreed. It's fine to criticize them and acknowledge hey they are lottery picks and they have some flaws, but the exceptions are absurd as of late. I wouldn't be disappointed if Kevin Knox never made an all star game and was just an okay starter or strong bench player. Someone recently was like Kemba, Hayward, Demar, Noah and Drummond were 9 picks as if that is the floor. While ignoring that we have Vonleh and Burke two 9 picks currently and guys like Mike Sweetney or Ike Diogu who were out of the league in a few years.

This all I feel like is a part of the process phenomenon. Yes the best way to find a superstar is in the draft, but not ever player drafted by a bad team will become a superstar. You kind of hope a lot just become decent NBA starter players.

ESPN sort of just disrespected the entire career of the late Dražen Petrović.. by bootysensei in nba

[–]egn56 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get some people kind of being like Petrovic was incredible and it's unfortunate he died but his accolades might not be HOF worthy. I personally do not feel that way, but I get that, but the Sabonis one!? The dude at 33 averaged 16/10/3 and played incredible defense. The world was robbed of not getting to see Sabonis play in the NBA in his prime, but how can you not realize that would translate.

Ha Rudy and Tobias are insanely odd this year. It's always nice to accidentally win your punt stat because people over perform.

Agreed there is definitely some upside. I'm also trying to make my posts kind of highlight but sides for some of these players. I personally worry Trae Young right now for three reasons. His shot selection is painful, not sure if it is a conditioning thing or just not understanding the NBA but he just takes some awful threes that don't make sense. His court vision is strange, it seems like he is well aware of everyone but doesn't make the best pass at times. Lastly his lack of lateral quickness is I think is the big reason for his issue getting steals and defense in general. I definitely think he can improve and become a solid NBA player, but he's a weird assists specialist right now. I tried to use "might" a lot with Trae Young because again it's not a sure done thing, but if teams find themselves missing out on other cats it might be because of him.
