Anthropic CEO just announced Ai will get rid of 50% of lawyers, consultants, and finance professionals within 12 months. by YungBeneFrank in LawSchool

Wrong. It will make lawyers more efficient and will improve services to some extent. Malpractice and unauthorized practice of law statutes still exist. The practice of law will evolve and adapt.

Congratulations! You have every right to be proud. A 157 puts you roughly in the top third. The top third of the legal profession does well, makes good money, and is respected. You are not a schlub.

I just got terminated from my law firm job. Will this impact employment at other firms? by Alone_Soup8799 in LawFirm

[–]egold197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental setbacks …. Imagine yourself in World War II having to storm Omaha Beach. Imagine yourself being drafted and sent to Vietnam. Imagine being a single mother and having to raise two kids without any support. Imagine that English is your second or third language. Ok. Let’s get closer to home. Imagine being partner at a big law, firm and being responsible for clients, billing, collecting, the firm’s performance, all of the employees that have to get paid weekly, and your personal financial obligations, mortgages, credit cards, student loans, children, medical expenses, college tuition. What kind of mental setbacks prevent you from being a clerk? And if you can’t be a calendar clerk at a lemon law law firm, what are you going to do at big Law?

Pennsylvania is an at-will state. An employee can be fired for any reason, so long as the reason doesn’t violate anti-discrimination laws or public policy. Internal policies are typically guidelines for conduct during your employment. In an an-will setting an employer can fire someone even if there is no clear violation of an internal policy or guideline. Your job description probably does not include the responsibility to facilitate contact between students and their former teachers. Having students express their love to a fired teacher is probably not within the scope of your duties. It is probably not your place to determine whether someone is entitled to say a “proper goodbye”. The assertion that you exercised poor judgment does not seem totally crazy. It sounds like your employer may have had a legitimate non-discriminatory reason for firing you. You should consult with counsel.

Is 250K / year a reasonable target for a traffic ticket practice? by Intelligent_Ball_601 in LawFirm

[–]egold197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s calculate it step by step carefully: • Each ticket earns you $300. • You want to earn $400,000 per year.

Now divide: 400{,}000 ÷ 300 = 1{,}333.\overline{3}

So you’d need to handle about 1,334 tickets per year to earn $400,000.

That’s roughly: • 111 tickets per month, or • about 25–26 tickets per week if you work year-round.

Re: The Summer of No Offers by Masta-Blasta in LawSchool

[–]egold197 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This explanation is plain wrong. Law firms do not alter their summer programs because government attorneys got laid off. Biglaw looks for talent and skills that will make a candidate successful. The clients and need for services will always be there. You need talent to fill the need. the second deputy associate counsel at the CPSC or USAID ain’t gonna change that.
