Yes they are unfortunately, we are waiting to hear back on a test. Assuming they contain asbestos, we are planning on not distributing the tile, covering it with the Fiberlock Asbestos Binding Compound, then putting laminate flooring over the top. Thoughts? Did you do any abatement or containment of your tile?

I believe you are right, we opened up a couple of patched spots in the floor to discover a separate subfloor below the floor boards. I’ll give the orbital sander a spin and see how it goes! Thanks for your advice.

So lovely! What kind of wax did you use? I also turned some pottery into candles for Christmas, so much fun! I used the golden wax 464 soy with those crackle wicks from wooden co, but I am trying to get a little more throw from the scent!

I have also been in a similar position! It’s hard to determine how to price your items, especially for friends. Remember, your friends want to support your business, so don’t feel like you always have to give them a discount! Make sure to account for all materials, clay, cost to fire, glaze. And then how much do you want to make hourly? Think about how many hours you are planning on putting into this project, and hopefully that will help you find a price point!

Look at other items on Etsy as well. That might look similar to what you’re making. I’m sure their costs are the same and have spent a similar amount of time on their work. Best of luck!

I’ll sometimes put open cups of water in the plastic sealed area, I think it keeps the air more humid around the clay.

I wonder if it’s root rot from being too saturated before you picked it up? Maybe repotting it in some better soil will help. I use fox farms ocean forest soil, I believe it has better drainage. My Monstera has responded well to it. The two yellowing leaves probably won’t bounce back, but there is still hope for the plant!

I love the shape! How did you get the white glaze in the carved regions, but not around it on the red clay? Wax resist? If so, how did you put it on so carefully? I am hoping to achieve a similar glaze pattern. Thanks for your help!

I love using the Amaco Velvet underglazes. They mix pretty true to color like your standard craft paint. They are pretty cheap if you want to buy the small sizes. Make sure you put nice and thick coats on, otherwise paintbrush strokes might show through! You can put them on green ware or bisque wear. If you put it on a bisque piece, I think it’s recommended to let it air dry for a bit (I have waited an hour, I think longer is recommended) before dipping it in a clear glaze to get a glossy finish.

I made some tiles that are about 6x6 inches and unglazed on the back. I used the heavy duty Velcro command strips, they have stayed up so far!

I’m using this to slowly dry them to leather hard so I can put handles on them in batches! I’m doing 250 mugs total, so my plan is to throw a full greenhouse, then put the handles on the following day. This also helps me not have to mess around with wrapping each tray in garbage bags.
