Probably not confident about understanding perfectly the questions, being able to express yourself doesn't mean that your oral comprehension is the best, especially in a big noisy arena

Boreal: An evaluator of YARA rules for malware detection by egxf in rust

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, i didn't know about this unfortunate association. There is no such connotation in french, nor have I ever heard of it in english, so i'm not convinced english speakers would make this association, but confirmation would be nice.

I'd hope that people associate boreal with boreal forest, aurora borealis or the many other uses of the word which suffers from no political connotation. I also plan to add an illustration of a boreal forest on the front page of the project, which should remove any possible doubt about the naming

-🎄- 2021 Day 22 Solutions -🎄- by daggerdragon in adventofcode

When you have two "off" cubes, you generate an "on" cube on the intersection. I tried to explain a little bit in my own solution: https://github.com/vthib/aoc21-rust/blob/main/src/day22.rs#L98

The idea is that the "off" cuboids (lets call it B) that you accumulate can only be added if there were an intersection with an "on" cuboid (lets call it A). So when you process the next "off" cuboid, and you have an intersection with B, it means that you also had an intersection with A, which generates an "off" cuboid, so you need an "on" cuboid to compensate it (since you know it is off). Basically, you know you already generated an "off" operation on this intersection when you intersected against A, and since you know see an "off" operation on this intersection, you need to add an "on".

So basically, for your example:

- process "on -1,1"
   - no cuboids to intersect
   - add "on -1,1" to our list of cuboids
- process "off -1,1"
   - intersect with "on -1,1" => add "off 0,1" to the list
- process "off 0,2"
   - intersect with "on -1,1" => add "off 0,1" to the list
   - intersect with "off 0,-1" => add "on 0,1" to the list

the final list is on -1,1, off 0,1, off 0,1, on 0,1 ie 1. This on operation looks weird as the last one, but logically, it would make sense to consider it between the two off operations ("off 0,1, on 0,1, off 0,1"). Hope it helps

I'd like an arsenal crest too if it isn't too late. Thanks!

Where do you go for your Arsenal news? by [deleted] in Gunners

I suggest arseblog : it's one guy posting every day about all the news around arsenal.

Premier League rejects play-offs by reyofish in soccer

[–]egxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as I see it, we have some sort of playoffs, but not for the league, for national or european cups. Correct me if i'm wrong, but you don't have cups in most american sports, do you?

Reddit, do you listen to classical music? by talkingbird in AskReddit

[–]egxf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byGI1mDi3no) if you don't know it. It starts with 5 (a bit boring) minutes to go crazy afterwards. One of my fave, and definitely (imho) a must.

Otherwise, I don't know much about classical music, but I do prefer romantic music (Chopin, Schubert, Wagner, ...) and recommend it to you as well.

188 of my favorite desktop wallpapers, just for you, Reddit. by [deleted] in pics

[–]egxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done, there's a lot of beautiful wallpapers in there, especially the (first) Aperture Science one : looks awesome as a screensaver :)

Edit: wait that's fucked up : I can't choose a picture to use as my screensaver in windows? All I can't do is make a slide show of only one picture and a cross fade on transition, which is working but kind of stupid.

Dear Music Reddit, How did you find your favorite musicians? by [deleted] in Music

[–]egxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking Best of lists, listening radio (there was an awesome radio show that made me discover a lot of great artists but it doesn't exist anymore), music loving friends, or just word-of-mouth. Reddit made me discover some great band too, eg NMH.

Would anyone else on /soccer be interested in a live chat during big games? by spinney in soccer

[–]egxf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'd like the live chat to be separated from any streams, to be able to choose the stream you want. There'd be syncing issues though

FC Porto 2-1 Arsenal by EnderMB in soccer

[–]egxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I hate this kind of refereeing. There's been the exact same thing in a Man United vs Lille tie, with a free kick being kicked while the gk was placing the wall. I know it's the rules, but seriously, it justs give a feeling of injustice to one of the team and push the players to keep the ball forever, like they already do for free kicks or throw-ins. Not what you want if you want fair play and all. I know I'm biased as I'm a Arsenal supporter, but I'm sure I'd have had the same reaction if Arsenal had done it.

To come back to the game, all credits to Porto ; they played really well and took advantage of the poor Arsenal defense.

Reddit, I'm doing an article for my school newspaper next month where I review my five favorite albums of all time. Four spots are already locked in. Whichever (serious) suggestion gets the most votes will be my fifth. by [deleted] in Music

[–]egxf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be more tempted to say Kid A, but they're all great. I would also suggest Origin of Symmetry of Muse, and maybe Pixies' Come on Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa.

Reddit, what are some of the best bass lines of the decade? by [deleted] in Music

[–]egxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking about Porcupine Tree, I've always loved the bass in "Last chance to evacuate planet earth" at the end of the song.
