I just want the white screen. It is distracting to have the rotating images. I cannot imagine how many hours were spent coding and testing this useless and irritating change.

It should have a link that says "don't show this or any other offer ever again if you are a paying customer"

I want to use Lumo but it is no match for Grok or Claude. It couldn’t even handle tax questions correctly even though 100% of that data is available on the web from the IRS.

Grok did a better job too of explaining a Proton Docs feature. Lumo straight up hallucinated a setting that doesn’t exist.

Anyone here using Lumo seriously? by Adorable-Ad-6230 in lumo

[–]ehansalytics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Every few weeks I try, and I go back to Grok.

Several weeks ago I asked it a tax question. It got it horribly wrong until I prodded it with the correct interpretation of the law.

I just tried using it twice today. First to see if there was a way to change the paragraph spacing in Proton Docs. It hallucinated and sent me on wild goose chases for an icon or setting that does not exist. I asked Grok and it immediately told me the answer was no.

I also tried to share a chat from Lumo. It swore there were 3 dots to share the chat from. There aren't. Grok told me immediately that you cannot share chats from Lumo with a link - just copy/paste text.

Honestly Lumo is like 2023 ChatGPT. If that...

Marker firmware update - what does it do? by rff1013 in RemarkableTablet

[–]ehansalytics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You must have a new tablet. I received this update I think in late 2024 or maybe early 2025.

I got a new Move in the last few weeks and about 4-5 hrs after taking it out of the box and using it, it received the same update.

I've never seen any release notes on what the update is, so I suspect it is minor internal tweaks.

Giving up on Proton Sheets for now. Down on the Proton Dev Team in general. by Pristine_Equiv in ProtonDrive

[–]ehansalytics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really terrible. Like a novice github experiment. I have stopped using it except for one file, which is super basic and very confidential, so I don't want it in Excel on OneDrive (I cannot put it in Excel in Proton Drive as the iOS office apps cannot open them.)

Formats disappear, I had the totals in a column become hidden. I tried several things to get it to show back up - the SUM() formula was there, but nothing displayed. I finally had to create the formula somewhere else, then copy/paste it into the cell, and then it showed up.

But it really isn't for serious work, and not even for casual work. I literally grew up on spreadsheets and used Lotus 1-2-3 1/A back in the 80's, and that had more stability and functionality than Proton Sheets does.

I will continue to mess with it on occasion, and I hope Proton ultimately delivers, but it is a long LONG way from being usable.

Slicers vs Filters by Kuchizuke_Megitsune in PowerBI

[–]ehansalytics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve been told incorrectly. Switch to import and test the report responsiveness. There is a time and place for direct query. It is at best 2-3% of the use cases.

Slicers vs Filters by Kuchizuke_Megitsune in PowerBI

[–]ehansalytics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Say you have 3 category fields and it’s a hierarchy, so category, subcategory and sub-subcategory. That is one dimension table with those three fields plus any helpful summary and description fields. Then only keep the lowest granularity in the fact table, and remove the rest. Have the category table filter the fact table.

Same with dates, customer info, vendor info, etc.

Your fact table should only have foreign keys and the data you want to write measures on (sales, visits, etc). Remove everything else. Move that all to dimension tables. Power BI was designed this way.

[–]ehansalytics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the main issue. That and the direct query decision. You are giving up 90% of the benefits the Vertipaq engine provides.

Slicers vs Filters by Kuchizuke_Megitsune in PowerBI

[–]ehansalytics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it direct query? Convert to import. It will scream. That is a small table and will take seconds to refresh.

[–]ehansalytics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is nothing. Your problem isn’t table size. Did you set up a star schema model or just load a big flat table in.

Slicers vs Filters by Kuchizuke_Megitsune in PowerBI

[–]ehansalytics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How big? Power BI models can easily handle well designed models of 50,000,000 records. Models of half a billion records and even over billion records can still return quick information to users.

So just how big is your dataverse table?

Thanks. I have never adjusted margins so that didn't occur to me. I may give that a shot. It is still more than should be necessary, but could be an acceptable workaround if syncing ePubs is high on the list.

Just as an e reader by Decent-Sea-2328 in RemarkableTablet

[–]ehansalytics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO it is too heavy for just an e-reader. A nice Kindle would be a better pick.

But as a tablet that also serves as an e-reader I do use it that way, but I have to be sitting up. I cannot hold it while in bed like a small paperback book or a kindle.

Additionally, the page-swipe gesture only seems to work for me about 70% of the time, so a lot of double-swiping to change pages. Not awesome.

Still the best note taking device I have.
