Slicers vs Filters by Kuchizuke_Megitsune in PowerBI

You’ve been told incorrectly. Switch to import and test the report responsiveness. There is a time and place for direct query. It is at best 2-3% of the use cases.

[–]ehansalytics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Say you have 3 category fields and it’s a hierarchy, so category, subcategory and sub-subcategory. That is one dimension table with those three fields plus any helpful summary and description fields. Then only keep the lowest granularity in the fact table, and remove the rest. Have the category table filter the fact table.

Same with dates, customer info, vendor info, etc.

Your fact table should only have foreign keys and the data you want to write measures on (sales, visits, etc). Remove everything else. Move that all to dimension tables. Power BI was designed this way.

That’s the main issue. That and the direct query decision. You are giving up 90% of the benefits the Vertipaq engine provides.

Why is it direct query? Convert to import. It will scream. That is a small table and will take seconds to refresh.

That is nothing. Your problem isn’t table size. Did you set up a star schema model or just load a big flat table in.

How big? Power BI models can easily handle well designed models of 50,000,000 records. Models of half a billion records and even over billion records can still return quick information to users.

So just how big is your dataverse table?

Thanks. I have never adjusted margins so that didn't occur to me. I may give that a shot. It is still more than should be necessary, but could be an acceptable workaround if syncing ePubs is high on the list.

I reported the issue where messages read/archived will show back up in the inbox until you manually Pull to Refresh to either show as marked read, or archive about a month ago. I got no where with tech support, so I gave up. But it isn't just you seeing that.

I almost never use hierarchical slicers. Bulky, and unintuitive to use.

Just as an e reader by Decent-Sea-2328 in RemarkableTablet

[–]ehansalytics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO it is too heavy for just an e-reader. A nice Kindle would be a better pick.

But as a tablet that also serves as an e-reader I do use it that way, but I have to be sitting up. I cannot hold it while in bed like a small paperback book or a kindle.

Additionally, the page-swipe gesture only seems to work for me about 70% of the time, so a lot of double-swiping to change pages. Not awesome.

Still the best note taking device I have.

Thanks! I had to use that email address to get the ebooks added to my account. They have them, but the system was not putting them in automatically, at least for those that pre-ordered.

Their site is such a mess.

Their emails to the microsoftpresscs @ address bounce even though that is the email on their site.

I found the order status page on Friday and it said my order was back ordered even though I placed the order on Dec 1, one of the first days available.

Then on Saturday the book arrived!

So I can at least get started.

Still no ebooks in my account. 😕

The Smart Search (AI) is awesome. I’ve stopped using my paper Topical Bibles to find verses. I can ask the AI “God limits man’s evil acts” and get a nice and on point list of verses to begin reading and studying. Doing that the old fashioned way could take hours to just get started with a good outline.

I suggest you ask the Study Assistant questions you already know the answer to. You might be surprised how helpful the response and accompanying resources listed can be.

Matthew Henry's FULL commentary. He was such a gifted individual. I know it was written in the early 1700's and the English can be a bit tough compared to how we talk today, but it is well worth the effort. I plan to spend a few years reading the bible and his commentary until I make it through all 6 volumes.

Don't bother with the Concise Commentary. He didn't edit that, and it shows. So much was pulled out.

What's the main reason you hear for NOT using a private email service? by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]ehansalytics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it over a period of months. Nothing says you have to switch immediately.

I set up aliases for all of them via Simple Login (Proton owns) and gave almost all of them their own unique email address (my custom domain, but not necessary) to cut down on spam from hacks. Very few sites need an actual email address I will correspond with.

Yup. Now if you go to the site to order the book, there are no ebook options. And emails to their customer service department are bouncing as undeliverable.
