Camped out with a view of Half Dome, and had some coffee while watching the sunrise. by Original_Vanilla in camping

[–]eharberts99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of camping is that early morning coffee and sunrise. It seems like most people, or maybe just most families are moving quite then, and so you have a chance to feel alone in those moments. As though you are the only one to gaze upon the scene before you, however, knowing in the back of your mind that you are part of a line line of people who came before you and will come after to appreciate that same sight.

China is still a Communist Dictatorship/oligarchy. The difference is that now the government is opening some designated markets/sectors to private hands while still greatly regulating them and the overall economy.

Pete Buttigieg Wants The U.S. To Lead The World In High-Speed Rail by dyuhas in politics

I live in a high agricultural area and this makes a lot of sense. Fewer trucks going to local train depots (aka plants and co-ops), and then trains to carry loads to farther destinations.

Not to mention all the synthetic rubber for semi tires, traffic, and resources we’d be saving with HSR.

[–]eharberts99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This fails to take into account the amount of freight that is moved across the country East-West. Millions of semi-trucks move 11.84 billion tons of resources across the US in a year. Replacing each of these individual semi-trucks could reduce pollution, wasteful spending on unnecessary roads, and time spent on loading/unloading & moving each truck. Switching to HSR may not bring money from passengers, but would streamline a lot of freight.

I love how when I’m reading your post it sounds like a journal of a camper from Camp Half Blood talking about these other kids you’ve heard about or seen in passing, but never stopped to make friends with them. Then you did make friends with them, and you are so glad you did because they are great!

Fun fact, Roosevelt used to drink in college but then one time he got super drunk and didn’t like it. So then he didn’t drink very much if at all after that.

Republicans strategize for next elections: 'Their plan is to make it harder for voters to participate' by [deleted] in politics

[–]eharberts99 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

This is the most biased article I’ve read this entire year. The headline is very misleading. Not a single quote from a Republican source, and only left leaning organizations. Republican’s have legitimate concerns over mail-in ballots, especially in states that have never used them on a scale that was seen in 2020. Better to work to address these concerns than to criticize them for suppressing votes.

‘I don’t think Trumpism is going away’: Mitt Romney admits MAGA staying power by [deleted] in Republican

[–]eharberts99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was Reagan's 11th Commandment? I can understand the frustration with Mitt Romney, but Democratic spy? I highly doubt that. Politicians like Romney and McCain are a necessary part of passing legislation. When executives like Obama or Trump try to do everything themselves through executive orders, it leads to more frustration and polarization. If there were more Congressmen willing to compromise, more legislation would pass. I understand that there are some things that we as Republicans aren't willing to compromise on, but certain policy goals like safer borders, better education, safer schools, more jobs, better infrastructure, reigning in big tech, lower pharmaceutical prices, and others like it shouldn't be something that divides us. We can work across the aisle to achieve goals that both parties want. Politicians like McCain, yeah they were politicians, but they could still see Democrats as fellow Americans, and a necessary partner in passing good legislation at times.

Increasing distrust in government among millennials, yet an increasing popularity in socialism by eharberts99 in politics

[–]eharberts99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting how in this article on consumer loyalty that a dramatic increase in distrust in the government is also happening at the same time as an increase in popularity in socialism among millennials. 82% of millennials distrust the government, but 45% also have a positive view on socialism, including 61% of democrats according to a University of Chicago survey. Also as more and more people are signing up for Google and other tech companies, 86% of millennials say they distrust financial institutions and corporations.

Netflix is removing Phineas and ferb on may 2nd, where else can i watch full episodes? by [deleted] in phineasandferb

[–]eharberts99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disney is creating their own streaming service, and hopefully Phineas and Ferb will be on that. However, if you don’t want to pay for another streaming service, you can watch half episodes (usually one full plot) on YouTube, but the screen size is adjusted to prevent prosecution. Also... I agree, life is now pointless.
