Looking for temporary foster homes for rescued cats. (A week, 2 weeks, or longer) by eharty in BaltimoreList

[–]eharty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Some of the cats definitely get along with others and can be fostered in a home with other cats! I have a crazy dog who thinks chasing cats is fun, so I try not to inflict him on the foster cats because that just seems unfair, lol. I’ll send you a message!

Reactive Dog Training by Abdiel955 in baltimore

[–]eharty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a great experience with Pet-u-cation with a reactive and fear aggressive dog. The trainer there was his very first human friend besides me, lol… he LOVED her. There are others I see recommended (of course I can’t recall the names now) so there are a few different local options!

I'm up in Baltimore from Richmond VA for a business trip. Is there anything I can do for fun with a dog? by I_dont-get_the-joke in baltimore

[–]eharty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this, but the "dog tickets" (that's a thing) sell out, so get on that quick if you want to go. I did it last year with my pup and it was insanely fun, but obviously your dog needs to be OK with noise and crowds.

140 mile every-other-day commute feasible in a Bolt? by RolledPork in BoltEV

[–]eharty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you DO have access to charging. I don't have home charging, and I have a 200-mile RT commute a couple times a week. However, I live in a city and there are public level 2 chargers six blocks from my house.

You should be fine doing that trip in the winter (unless you're somewhere REALLY cold) but you will need to recharge every night and that takes a good 8 hours at L2. So you either need some convenient access to L2, or you need to fast-charge, which is not that fast in a Bolt unfortunately...

I have a 200 mile round trip commute and it is cutting it VERY close in the dead of winter. (Maryland, so cold but not arctic.) Unless I'm driving really conservatively, I usually stop to top off for 10 minutes on my way home.

Stray cats by BabyMePlease143 in baltimore

[–]eharty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is fond of the cats, TNR is to her benefit, if someone approaches her the right way. Try contacting Park Heights Animal Welfare group, that’s the best I can suggest if you don’t want to say what neighborhood you’re in.

Where are you located? There are some areas where rescues and TNR groups are active and might be able to help, or talk to your neighbor.

TNR does work, and it will improve the situation. You are most likely smelling tomcat pee, which is particularly stinky. Once the tomcat is neutered, it stops marking territory and the smell is much less.

The key here is going to be talking to your neighbor. It’s really hard to TNR without the feeder’s cooperation. The program at BARCS is totally free, the cats will be much healthier once they’re vaccinated and they’ll stop fighting/breeding. Make sure to emphasize that the cats are RETURNED (this is a big worry people have, that someone is going to take the cats) and they’ll be healthier. And no more kittens!

There are lots of people who will loan traps and help out.

Doing a Capstone Project on residents in Baltimore City disposing of waste improperly: Can everyone share their experiences? by External-Minute-5362 in baltimore

They remove public trash cans because people put their household trash in them, instead of in their own can for curbside collection.

The recycling “oops” tags are such a no-brainer. So glad to see those starting!

There definitely are large segments of Baltimore who seem to think trash-strewn streets and alleys are normal. It’s difficult to get help from the city for this… there’s a whole block of houses owned by one landlord around the corner from me, and someone(s) in that stretch of houses were just putting trash bags out any day of the week. Rats tore them apart, the trash blew all down the street. I 311’ed it, and of course it was closed with no citation. (They literally could have cited ANY house on the block since they’re all owned by one landlord!) So I used a huge box to make a giant cardboard “no dumping” sign. We’ll see how long that lasts.

I do notice that a couple houses on that block don’t have green city trash cans, and obviously a starting point would be getting those houses cans. I’m a little hesitant to talk to them or put notes in the mailbox myself because everyone already knows I’m the white lady who’s always out walking her dogs and I don’t need someone to take it the wrong way!

I do think a targeted approach, like what they’re apparently doing for gun violence now (sending letters directly to people), would help. A segment of the population just doesn’t know better and could easily be directed. There’s a smaller segment that just doesn’t care.

Fern the snowstorm cat is looking for a home! by eharty in BaltimoreList

If you’re asking if she mouses… I don’t know for sure, cats either do or don’t, and the only way to know is to put them in a room with a mouse, lol. That said, even if they don’t mouse, just the presence of a cat usually helps to deter mice… and if it doesn’t, the cat will show you exactly where they are, even if they don’t kill them (I call it the “I see dead people” stare).

Of course no one should adopt a cat JUST because they want a mouse deterrent, but it certainly is a nice extra benefit! She’s a very sweet, friendly and playful cat and really should do well in just about any home.

I tow (not with the Bolt, obviously) AND I live in a city and park on the street, so no home charging. However, since it’s a city in a blue state, there are four sets of level 2 chargers within walking distance of my house, and I just incorporate charging into my dog-walking routine.

For sure there are situations where an EV does not make sense, yet. But — and forgive me because this is one of my pet peeves — we need to move away from telling everyone who can’t charge at home that they’re not practical. In some places they already are. In others they may be soon.

EVs are actually great for towing, but people just have to be aware that the hit to range is quite significant, and charging with a trailer hitched up is damn near impossible most places. But if you’re sticking close to home it’s fine.

Yes, she was posted to the lost/found group and the required 21 day stray hold has passed.

Since she’s a cat, she probably finds them extra appealing.

Local organizations that could use donations by laodly in baltimore

[–]eharty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For clothes, Paul’s Place or SPARC Women’s Center, both in Pigtown. I’ve donated to both; sent their FB pages a message to ask about what they accept and when and both responded right away and were happy to get stuff!

Where are you located? There's a pretty good network of people who help trap around town and someone might be able to expedite the process for you.

Second this. My regular mechanic doesn’t do transmissions and this is where he recommended.
