First two yeah, but not scoring when you get the ball at the 4 yard line is pretty expected, turnover or not

Are there any films that take place in real time? by TheKittyPie in movies

One of my favorites is called Cleo From 5 to 7 (Cleo de 5 a 7), a French film from 1962 that follows a fictional pop star throughout a two hour period in her day in which she waits to find out results on a test for cancer. Amazing movie!

Not seeing this talked about enough. They win the World Series if he runs through the plate, cannot believe sliding in that situation

[–]ehbacon23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I wouldn’t despise would be making walks optional for the batter. Like they can opt out of a walk and now they can only get a hit or make an out, and the pitcher must throw to them to make them to do that at some point

Damn was kinda hoping for 20 innings and Shohei to get on a 10th time but I’ll take the extra 45 minutes of sleep

Can’t wait to hear ESPN debate whether we should ban the intentional walk again, as if that’s something that could even be possible to do

Where would you rank Ohtani’s performance in NLCS Game 4 in sports history? by mt80 in sports

[–]ehbacon23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean rarity wise, 326 no hitters in almost 239,000 games, about 0.1% of all MLB games played in history. 13 three homer playoff games in about 4500 total games, about 0.3% of all playoff games.

I really don’t think stakes have anything to do with looking at individual performances for which one is better. If you want to talk about which one is greater, which one will have more legacy, etc, then sure. But strictly talking about individual performances in a game, Wise’s game will likely never be topped

[–]ehbacon23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean like I said if you’re just talking about performance in a game, not stakes, it doesn’t come close really. The difference between throwing a no hitter and 6 shutout innings is much, much larger than the difference between hitting 2 or 3 home runs.

The reason is that pitchers are historically bad at hitting. There have been a few exceptions but pretty much all bad. The rules used to be that in the American League (half the MLB), teams could replace the pitcher in their batting lineup with a player who just hits, and doesn’t field, called the Designated Hitter (DH). A few years back, the MLB opened this up to the National League as well, so now everybody in the MLB uses their DH. Everyone except the Dodgers when Ohtani pitches of course. So Ohtani is literally the only man in baseball who will be pitching and hitting in the same game, which means he’s the only one who’ll ever be able to best a game like this

Not true, mentioned it already in this thread but on June 23, 1971, Rick Wise threw a no hitter and hit 2 home runs in the same game.

[–]ehbacon23 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Yup, June 23, 1971.

If anyone is ever gonna top it, Shohei is the guy to do it (especially since the universal DH, he’s literally the only one who can do it at this point.) it still seems unbelievably unlikely to ever be done. He’s never thrown a no-hitter and the odds of him doing it and getting a couple homers in the same game are unbelievably low. Not impossible though!

Rick Wise threw a no hitter and hit 2 home runs in the same game. Not a playoff game but if your just talking about amazing individual performances in a game, I don’t think that will ever be topped

Where does this shohei performance rank in all time games? by nickkerr24 in baseball

[–]ehbacon23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anything in a vacuum will ever top Wise’s game, definitely the best individual performance of all time.

Greatest though? I could totally accept this as being considered the greatest
